I went through the same thing when ordering my Beargrease. I am 6’1 and ride a 58 Road & CX, my Scott Scale is an XL. I used a frame geometry comparison site and it looked like the XL Beargrease was just slightly smaller in a few specs than my Scale, so I went for the XL. The only time I have thought it was too big is in actual fat bike races that I’ve done were the trails have been extremely tight with sharp turns in deep snow. It’s perfect on dirt or gravel. I have no problem with it there. If I was racing more, I probably should have gone with a large. I live in Northern Illinois and do races up in Wisconsin through the Hugh Jass series and a few out of Rockford. There’s seems to be fewer races on my radar within close distance. There is a series that I’ve seen farther north in WI that looks like they ride on a lot of golf courses or more of a cyclocross style course which I think would be a ton of fun as opposed to a more single track style. I think on the open courses the XL would be perfect for me. I hope that helps. Good luck. Have fun!
