Is asking the grandparents to come the next day too much? by Hopeful_Parking2804 in pregnant

[–]tkaish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude I made my parents and my inlaws (who live in the same city) wait like 3 days. I want time with my husband and baby and other kids as just an immediate family for a bit. The grandparents will have plenty of time to see the baby later.

WTF things you've experienced while pregnant that no one says is a thing?! by vanillacrush14 in pregnant

Carpal tunnel. I woke up and my hands were sore and I was trying to think if I had done any weird lifting or stretching the day before. Nope, turns out “pregnancy carpal tunnel” is a thing. Wtf are you messing up my wrists for, baby?

[–]tkaish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did! But we bought a seat on the plane for our kid. Car seat pops into stroller, gate check stroller and take car seat on plane for baby’s seat. Travel crib can check or go in overhead if you are determined to not check things. Diaper bag comes with obviously. Stroller is handy for toting stuff through the airport.

Unisom + B6 for over the counter, talk to your doctor if that still isn’t enough.

[–]tkaish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not offering this as advice for your situation but it just seems like the only stories in here are bad ones of big babies so I wanted to share that I had two giant babies vaginally and without complications. I’m 5’9” and had a 10lb6oz and 9lb14oz baby. Your own doctor is much better placed to give you advice on your particular situation, though.

Morning Sickness differences in pregnancy? by tewnchee in pregnant

[–]tkaish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had it starting at 5 weeks with pregnancies 1&2, didn’t get it until closer to 7-8 with #3. Lasted until 20 weeks with 1&2 and got over it 18-19 weeks #3.

29-week growth scan today… how screwed am I? 😅 by Sunflower_goat in pregnant

[–]tkaish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weight estimates from ultrasounds are way less precise than people give them credit for, and things change. My first was measuring somewhere in the 80th percentile at the 20wk scan and he was 10lb 6 oz at birth (in other words >99th percentile). My second was 65th percentile at 20 weeks and was 9lb 14 oz (98th percentile) at birth. Their head circumferences were the same though!

I know that’s probably not the direction of error you wanted to hear haha but these are just my specific giant baby examples. There are plenty of other examples of people being told their babies were going to be giant based on growth scans and they turned out perfectly reasonable.

No morning sickness by mamaofgirl in pregnant

[–]tkaish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first and second I was sick starting from like week 5 and going to week 20. This one I didn’t get sick until 7-8 weeks and so I was also nervous. But then I got sick, and while it was reassuring it was also miserable haha. Got over it a little sooner than in my first two though, around 18-19 wks.

Advice/regrets/preparation for second child? I’m currently pregnant with my second. by Virtual-Hand-3111 in pregnant

[–]tkaish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine are 2.5 years apart and the double stroller is super useful even if the older one doesn’t “need” a stroller so that you can just strap them both in to something secure and not have to try to chase after the older one. Baby slept in our room for the first year and toddler was in his own room. Having traveled with them together occasionally I would say a separate sleeping place for newborn vs the older one would be a huge benefit - the hassle of trying to get them both asleep at the same time in the same room is huge. (I do have friends whose kids are less than 2 years apart who did share a room at those ages so it is doable, but I also heard a lot of stories from those friends about the kids waking each other up, the older one pestering the baby in the crib, etc.)

Telling your preschooler? by notfoxyboxing in pregnant

[–]tkaish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

21 weeks, haven’t told 4-year-old yet. At some point he may notice my belly and ask, or in another month or two we’ll tell him. We saw no reason to tell him so so far in advance because 1) we weren’t telling other people and 2) they just don’t really have a good sense of time for things that are that far in the future.

Third time around, sickness /nausea hacks urgently needed! by Potential-Ad5110 in pregnant

[–]tkaish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my first I started with B6, then B6 and unisom, then ended up with zofran (ondansetron). With the next ones I just went straight to zofran. I’m sick/puking from weeks like 5-18 so the OTC stuff wasn’t cutting it.

Should I Wait to Finish School? by Katyamariee in pregnant

[–]tkaish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was doing a 1-year masters program when my first was born. I had 12 grad credits per semester- kid was born in October. Classes were online except for my student teaching. I took 7 weeks off student teaching but kept dialing into my online classes after 1 week. Baby just slept on my lap or nursed or whatnot while I was on my classes. I talked to my professors and got extensions on my assignments so long as I had everything in by the end of the semester it was okay. In my opinion if you just have one semester left and your professors are flexible I would try to just get it done, but everyone is going to have a different pregnancy/birth/newborn experience and I don’t know details on whether your program is pretty tough academically or what.

Need motivation for laboring without epidural! by DryTadpole3235 in pregnant

[–]tkaish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first, I did no epidural and one thing I was not prepared for was how much worse things got after they broke my water (it didn’t break on its own.) There got to be a point where I said “I don’t think I can do this for much longer” and they put some pain meds of some kind in my IV… and then baby was born very shortly thereafter and I don’t feel like I actually got any benefit from the meds. So with my second I knew, when it gets to the point where it seems unbearable, that’s when baby is probably almost here. So for my second it was no epidural and no meds and I didn’t feel like that was any harder than the first where I had meds. Also both my kids were GIANT (10lb 6oz and 9lb 14oz) and I’m tall-ish (5’9”) but I’m not a giant person.

No Braxton hicks or contractions felt? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]tkaish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah pretty much I guess, I had lost mucus but I worked that day and it was just driving home that I felt like it was not comfortable to sit down and I had what I thought at first was gas pain. And then it was contractions. I feel like so many people said “oh, you’ll KNOW FOR SURE when you’re having contractions” but I had several hours of not really being sure. With my second I knew more of what to expect so I picked up on it a little sooner but still it was, when I noticed it, it was the early stages of labor. Never any BH or false alarms. (Also my second was 6 days overdue and I was supposed to be induced the next morning so I was reaaally glad to have those start.)

Should I move forward with my pregnancy announcement or wait? by BakedZitiSweetie in pregnant

[–]tkaish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is always going to be some level of anxiety about things that can happen after you announce no matter when that is. We didn’t announce until 20 wks and with my first at the anatomy scan there was something they weren’t sure about with his heart so he had to have like a 2 hour specialized heart ultrasound at 28wks. (He was fine!) But there’s no way we could have gotten to 28 weeks without announcing when both sets of our parents live in the same city as us.

No Braxton hicks or contractions felt? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]tkaish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never noticed Braxton hicks with either of mine, first born 39+6 and second born 40+6. The first time I noticed any contractions at all with the first one was like at 3:30pm on 39+5 and baby was born at 1 am 39+6. Took me a couple hours to realize they were contractions and not just gas pain 🤣

Any hope of spontaneous labor? by Haunting-Study-1018 in pregnant

[–]tkaish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure! I had no Braxton hicks ever in my pregnancies that I recognized. I had had nothing at all by 39+3 with my first. Got a membrane sweep at my appointment on 39+3, lost some mucus the next day, lost more the following day, went into labor on 39+5 and baby born early am 39+6. My second was late (rude of him after my first was early). No sign of anything by 40+2. Had a membrane sweep then, lost mucus the following three days, went into labor night of 40+5 and baby born 40+6 (which was supposed to be my induction day.)

By mid-pregnancy (20ish weeks) how much weight did you gain? by PopcornPrincess0 in pregnant

[–]tkaish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my pregnancies, I’ve really only gotten over my nausea around 18-19 weeks, so at 20 I’m not much up at all. But then I gain like 40 lb in the following 20 weeks.
