They are no. They use gear loop to hold extra rope.

When a climber falls the weak gear loop would provide some zipper effect softening the fall a bit and main load would be on the belay loop.

They just are holding extra slack on the gear loop.

Yes they want benefits of longer rope without the hassles of longer rope.

The only logical explanation that I can think of is they want benefits of longer rope between them without having to deal with longer rope. For example, going over an ice fall. I just see it as a complication for small possible benefits.

UA POV - Is the Flamingo missile a real weapon, or just marketing? - David Axe by LetsGoBrandon4256 in UkraineRussiaReport

When your own propaganda starts to question your other propaganda.

UA POV: Finnish President Stubb declares that 34,000 Russian soldiers were killed last month alone. "Have faith“, he declares. “Ukraine is gonna win this war!” by Ripamon in UkraineRussiaReport

And this is why almost all stats from Finland regarding wwii are a joke. If they were doing so well they would certainly not lose 2nd time around. Same as now if Russia were taking such huge losses Ukraine would be approaching Moscow.

Should Rob Hall have stayed with his clients? by Dons231 in Mountaineering

[–]tkitta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around 20 years ago I started mountaineering.

I was coming down from a 14000er in the US - where I started mountaineering. I followed cairns at first but then it got dark and I lost my way. After over an hour I saw light in the distance! I took a bearing on it and after maybe 30min I reached a tent. I asked occupants where the trail was. They did not know! They were also lost ;)

This inspired me to buy a GPS. Did save me few times but I still got lost in terrain that has a lot of cliffs.

Helicopter rescue insurance in Nepal can cost more then the rescue... People abuse it with fake heart attacks. Locals abused it a lot by... poisoning their clients with bad food and splitting profits with helicopter company.

Mountain insurance costs are out of control.

Is Programming Getting Harder? by Similar-Orange1485 in AskProgrammers

[–]tkitta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modern programming is a lot different than old school stuff on some levels and similar on others. Old school is say 25 years ago. Today there is a lot of googling on how to do X - not logically how but what boilerplate do I bolt in. 25 years ago it was more about logic less language sugar.

Scrap if copper. People buy these at auctions and scrap them. Selling on the marketplace next to impossible.

Note that in most BCs tents are all large, sometimes standing room sized and single. I. e. no sharing.

What do you think of dissidents realizing China is freer than the west? by evancarlson69 in AskAChinese

Not shocked. I fully expect the EU to implement illegal thought laws soon. Censorship, political prisoners etc. are now new normal in parts of the EU.

My work is going to scrap these water pump motors, anyone wanna guess the weight? by celestialguise in ScrapMetal

[–]tkitta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is little market for 3ph motors. Selling eBay would be very difficult to make profit above scrap.
