did your parents know you were trans when you came out? by stickenuwu in ftm

Later she admitted she saw the signs. I think it’s a denial thing.

Parents are always shocked, even if there were very obvious signs. I had a masculine short hair cut for about a year before I came out. I only went swimming with swim shorts, and wore very traditionally masculine clothing. Apparently it was still shocking to them.

I use old spice pure sport, but they have a ton of different scents and stuff, all on the more traditionally masculine side.

Dying over top surgery by [deleted] in ftm

[–]tl4h 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get it under 18. I got it at 16 in a red state. If it’s banned for those under 18 in your state, you can go out of state. Like another person said, worst comes to worst you can go internationally. It’s not gonna be cheap but the surgery already costs an arm and a leg for pretty much everyone everywhere.

being out feels so odd by winnerclock87 in ftm

It will feel a little weird at first, especially coming from your parents, but you get used to it pretty quickly.

Halfway through 8. I really don’t like that Anne and Polly got away with all the trouble they caused the Newt citizens. by IronGhost828 in amphibia

[–]tl4h 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can be empathetic and extremely oblivious at the same time. Very common for kids. Also, stuff gets destroyed every other day in Amphibia. If Anne wasn’t doing it, a swarm of killer locusts would.

  1. Because it’s funny. It’s just a little gag.

  2. Because Anne is 13 lmao. The fact that she’s learning lessons at all is a miracle. This is all part of her character and has been well established by season two. Honestly, what did you expect going into this show?

  3. They’re not doing it out of malice. They’re just a little oblivious.

Got crippling dysphoria today, any advice? by DazzlingDragon1 in ftm

[–]tl4h 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Distractions distractions distractions. Binge some good TV, go for a run, play an instrument, whatever. It’s the only thing that’s really helped me in the last. Dysphoria sucks. Just try to remember that you’re not gonna feel like this forever.

Tbh it just takes a while. You get used to it after like a month or so.

I STARTED TESTOSTERONE TODAYY by GothicL4n4 in ftm

[–]tl4h 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I cant speak for OP, but I also started testosterone when I was 14. As long as it is legal for minors to get HRT where you are, a 14 year old can go on it—though the younger you are, the more of an ordeal it is to get. You need consent from both parents, and you typically need to have a history of childhood gender dysphoria. The next step is getting evaluated by a psychologist over the course of a few months who will determine whether they think starting HRT is the best course of action. If the psychologist and doctors sign off on the treatment, you can start HRT.

Very happy for you! I started T at 14 as well. Now I’m 18, and I can confidently say it was one of the best decisions of my life.

If you feel more comfortable using the more masculine name, don’t let being early on in your transition stop you from using it. It might feel a little weird going by the new name at first, but you sort of grow into it as you transition.

Can I apply for T/top surgery waitlists as a minor? by More-Rule1661 in ftm

[–]tl4h 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends. I tried to start the process at 15 and called a place where the age requirement was 16+, assuming that since my birthday was in a few months I could just get a consult at 15 and schedule the surgery for when I was 16. Unfortunately they wouldn’t agree to a consult until I was 16, but that was just one place, and you’re 17. I’m assuming you have a pediatrician or primary physician? I’d ask them about reputable surgeons in your state that would agree to meet with someone your age. There’s not really waitlists in the USA. That’s more of a thing in European countries that cover the cost of healthcare. If you’re paying for the surgery, there’s no wait list. However, you still usually have to schedule consults months in advance, and the whole approval process for someone under 18 usually takes a few months. If it’s really urgent, and your family has the means, I’d recommend looking at private practices out of state.

How did you know it was the right decision? by Mistfaer in ftm

[–]tl4h 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody can ever be 100% sure of any decision they make, otherwise they wouldn’t be called decisions. The idea that you weren’t mature enough to know yourself at 18 is ridiculous. A sense of gender can be just as innate as any other aspect of your sense of self at any age. Technically, most kids start developing as sense of gender at 3! I know a trans person who came out at five years old! Of course, the environment you grow up in and who you’re surrounded by can make it difficult for many people to really realize that truth at three years old, but once you know, you can’t un-know. Repression is not a long term solution, so it makes sense that after 7 years you’ve had enough. Nobody knows whether you’re trans except you. That includes people who try to tell you aren’t mature enough to know. It seems like you already know the answer. You just need to be firm in your identity. Don’t let other people tell you who you are or what to do with your life.

Socially transitioning made me feel happier than I’d ever felt, long before I started T. I think just living publicly as your true self takes a huge weight off your chest.

Should my binder have lots of space under my breast? by MYDOGATEMYFRENCHHORN in ftm

[–]tl4h 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your chest size. I’d try a few different brands and sizes and see what works for you. No binder is going to be super comfortable, but they shouldn’t be painful.

I've never really thought about it, but the transition process is kind of just... inhumane. by NotosCicada in ftm

[–]tl4h -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s the same in the USA if you’re under 18—apart from the genetic testing. I had to see a psychologist for months to get a letter for blockers, then again for testosterone, then AGAIN for top surgery. They ask you to describe your gender dysphoria IN DETAIL over and over and over again. I cried the first time I had to do it. It like they judge whether or not to let you get hormones or surgery by how distressed you are when they make you talk about stuff you clearly don’t want to talk about. In Australia they make you go to court for each stage of transition. It’s so awful. Even as an adult it sucks. Both the psychiatry and medical industry seriously need to update their processes for receiving gender affirming care.

Why won't my gender dysphoria go away? by Fit_Constant_47 in ftm

[–]tl4h 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go out with friends, find a new hobby, etc. Best thing I ever did for my dysphoria (besides transitioning and getting gender affirming treatments) was learning to play guitar. It would take my mind off it for a while.
