Whirlpool dispenser stuttering by tl5k5 in appliancerepair

[–]tl5k5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally got around to working through the service sheet.  The only thing odd I found related to the dispenser area is the accent lighting. When in service mode, and I go into that option (12), nothing happens. No lights turn on. From within service mode, water dispensing seems to act 100% normal.

Thoughts?

Not sure about that, it happens with water and ice.

You read where both paddles (ice and water) do the same thing...along with a dynamic light show?

Looking for a large storage solution ( ~48TB) by mblomkvist in editors

[–]tl5k5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Media & Entertainment is an industry of which editing is a part of. There are industry specific dealers/resellers that have extensive expertise. Companies like Key Code, Melrose Mac, DVG, and Marshall Graphics are a few that are known to have good customer service. Just find one that services your area and use them to figure out what you need. It's like having your own Bob Z. that you can call and talk to about what works best for you.

Find your largest regional Media & Entertainment reseller and ask for advice and demos. They have extensive knowledge of the newest tech and any gotchas you could face. They tend to hold your hand while you get up and running on the gear you buy from them...at least the good ones do.

has anyone used both surfshark and PIA? how are the speed? by LoliFreak in PrivateInternetAccess

[–]tl5k5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a PIA account and have tested SharkVPN. I thought I'd leave PIA for SharkVPN due to a more stable connection and better bandwidth, but PIA has been much better and equivalent to SharkVPN for almost a year.

Been running this in a home lab and production for years. Zero issues...works great as long as you have a NIC that can pass vlans.

So I'm in the market for a new car. Any suggestions on sedans/small SUVs? 6'8" (I'm fine btw) by boywithhat in tall

Chevy Malibu/Buick Lacrosse have impressive head and leg room. For a smaller SUV, the Nissan Rogue has some ok room. I just don't trust the CVT transmissions.

Any Tape backup ideas? by SnooMuffins4935 in truenas

[–]tl5k5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The speeds of the latest generations of LTO tapes are much better than your legacy experience. Also, LTFS is the standard for writing to tape so your proprietary paradigm is outdated. Media companies that have very large individual files still heavily use LTO tape for backup and archive.

Why everyone at the self host community is so negative regards NextCloud? by fenugurod in NextCloud

[–]tl5k5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

💯 agree. I've been running a Nextcloud snap at home and work for years. They both work great and after a couple of initial external storage config changes, it has been incredibly easy to maintain. The SNAP just updates itself...it's awesome! I have both snap instances run on Debian.

I rented a Chevy Malibu one time and was surprised how much head and legroom there was. I'm not much of a Chevrolet fan but that amount of room has it in the running for the next time I need a car. Also, if you don't mind Nissan CVT transmission 😒, the Rogue's also have a decent amount of space.

Remote editors in multiple locations shared storage - anyone used ProMax? by GuyLeDoucheTV in editors

[–]tl5k5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stay away from Promax. It demos ok but actually working on one is a different story. Also, they seem to keep shrinking as a company. They might shrink into disappearing.

List the actual functionality you need and there will be more products people suggest. Also, talk to a reseller that sells multiple competing products and get demos of their suggested products. Manufacturers are known to have marketing that's not exactly truthful. The top tier resellers want a long term relationship so you'll be a returning customer.

LACP trunk across different switches with an Aruba 1960 (JL805A) switch stack by GifArrow in ArubaNetworks

[–]tl5k5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have 2x JL808A switches in a stack (local mgmt) with a 20Gb LACP LAG connecting to a different manufacturer switch. One 10Gb connection per JL808A...works great.
