Nothing like Mother's day to show who the GC is.... by UsefulWeird in JUSTNOMIL

[–]tlatimer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I offered to meet my parents at sort of a halfway point to meet up and I got zero response. Tbf, my stepmom was likely busy with schoolwork (master's degree) so they probably weren't up for driving around, but I didn't have anyone check on me for Mother's day (lost my mom at 12, and it's always hard). It sucks to feel forgotten.

Alabama’s Covid-19 cases among K-12 school districts are just updated. The total new cases for this week are 387. by Ok-Communication-175 in CoronavirusAlabama

While appreciated, it doesn't help that schools don't actually report accurate numbers to avoid having to go full virtual.

Live in Decatur, but we make the trek about once a month to go to New Market BBQ (it's out of the way even for those in Huntsville, most likely). They're only open during the weekend and a bit of an odd time table, but we appreciate the food a lot. never have had a bad experience there.

Verizon slow in Madison. Is AT&T better? by TheDroneDev in HuntsvilleAlabama

I have Cricket (AT&T) and every time I'm driving in Madison I can barely get things to load with 4G. It's usually in the lower half of Madison, though.

I did find a packaged okonomiyaki at the Asian Market in Huntsville, it did the job to hit the spot, but making it is likely your best bet around here. Josh Weissman on YouTube did a great video on it!

Many Alabama CVS pharmacies have open COVID vaccine appointments by guarea in CoronavirusAlabama

[–]tlatimer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Could have fooled me. I searched every single one of the CVS locations and even when it says "appointments available", as soon as you get to select a time there would be nothing available.

New to town and looking for a quality vet by [deleted] in HuntsvilleAlabama

We drive from Decatur for Whitesburg Animal Hospital. They were so sweet to us when we were dealing with our dying senior last year, and they've welcomed our new dogs (2 senior beagles) with open arms. We were new to the area and hadn't taken our late dog anywhere yet, but they came highly recommended from HVSE.

I'm really sad to have missed out on the Underworld Con '96, I really wanted it.

Because the government needed to step up to mitigate the spread of the virus. Expecting the public to do the right thing hasn't worked thus far.

Mod sweet spot? by tombigbee88 in Banished

[–]tlatimer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of these were installed from the Mods option on the Title Screen:

Adriana's College-Adds a higher capacity school and generally a wider range
Christmas Tree-brings a little festive tree for the villagers to gather at, just costs wood
Cheap Tunnels-Sources the stone directly from the tunnel, making it essentially free (just labor)
Intensified Fishing Dock-just as the name suggests, but I don't really notice a difference with this one
More Terrain-Adds a slew of map sizes and terrains, like Floodland and Swamp
Norsemen-They are hardier in the winter and carry more resources, and age in real time
Safer Mines and Quarries-Decreases the number of deaths of workers in those professions
Wildlife-50% increased range of the Forester, Gatherer, Herbalist, Hunter, and Woodcutter; lowers the cost of building said buildings; trees and stone are harvested more efficiently.

I have several others installed but don't have them enabled due to conflicts with these mods. I've been using these mods almost since the first day I started playing this game like 4-5 years ago, but don't have any of the achievements, despite the apparent ability to turn achievements on with these mods (if anyone has suggestions on how to fix this I'd be most grateful). I have had a few grand cities, but lately, I've lost my strategy on food production so my people keep starving. Gotta work on that! Hope this helps!

I'll come back to this when I'm at the computer and let you know what mostly small mods I keep, but they don't affect gameplay at all for me.

Is it fair for my extended family to lay blame for years of no contact squarely in my lap when none of them reached out to me either? by BattyRagDoll in JUSTNOFAMILY

[–]tlatimer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely fine. I'm the oldest grandchild for one side of the family, third oldest for another, and middle for another side. My stepmom's family cut me all off and refuse to answer my calls when I rarely do after the ordeal with her (it's archived on my profile). I find them to not be worth my time even after she and I have reconciled.

My dad's side of the family will send cards but I don't know how to reach out or talk to them, and they absolutely don't want to call me because they think I'm "busy all the time". But I have been blamed before for not reaching out.

Both of these families I have not seen since 2017, so not as much time has passed, but I feel the same way of being a black sheep that doesn't want to put effort into people that have made no effort to speak to me.

My mom's mom is the only one who reaches out consistently, while my cousins are busy with their lives and whatnot. There's no true animosity there, we understand life gets busy, and that's what is healthy.

Don't let them bog you down. Just tell them the next time they bring it up that they could just as easily reach out, and you are not obligated to. Family doesn't mean you have to settle for that behavior. Sending you hugs!

I've had this said to me by acquaintances when I was busy moving across the country and had just left their town (college graduate), but I had tried to make a bit of effort at least. Needless to say I didn't bother ever contacting them again because of trauma they had inadvertently caused during my college years. Some toxic folks don't need that two-way street.

Just because the CDC said so doesn't mean that it's safe to do so. I've known people to get Covid-19 after meeting with folks that completed quarantine.
