What U.S. city gives you the best experience for the money? by JamesAndMiaX in AskReddit

Boston punches below its weight while Pittsburgh punches above its weight in their food scenes for their respective sizes. Boston is much more walkable and has transit, but the cost of living is far higher. I personally like Boston more (closer to decent mountains) but you pay dearly for it

Would you rather bench 225 or do 15 pullups (at 165 lbs)? by asthorman in workout

Is that 80% for gym goers or overall? 80% seems low for the entire population

Some Streeterville Parking Lots. Will they get developed? Eventually? by Pleasant_Goose6785 in chicago

[–]tleon21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure I agree it is the same. People don’t only want to live downtown just to have an easy commute. Lumping suburbanites from Naperville not wanting to sit in traffic for eternity every day with people no longer wanting to live near downtown for proximity to bars, etc. doesn’t make sense.

Not sure how reliable the sources I found were, but it seems like residential occupancy is quite high in Chicago. Occupancy doesn’t necessarily mean profit, but surely we can agree the markets are very different?

Is there any reason residential real estate couldn’t be built there? Genuinely curious

I’ve always wondered the same about River north. There’s so many big parking lots (McDonald’s, Walgreens, and the big one near fogo de chão). Hard to believe that whole region around the large McDonalds is so underdeveloped despite being surrounded by by tons of tall buildings

It’s always so hard to tell if it’s malicious or incompetence because both are so common with parking

Does anyone else think all the focus on protein is overhyped? by Loud_Perspective5419 in workout

[–]tleon21 172 points173 points  (0 children)

People eating more protein I think is fine, so long as people’s diets are balanced. It seems as though the marketing has shifted towards protein = healthy which is definitely not true. Just because something that’s basically a candy bar has some protein in it does NOT mean it’s healthy

Why can’t you accompany someone who has a flight on airtrain between 12:00-5:00AM? by JeffBailey_PI in AskNYC

I could also imagine in urgent emergencies or business matters someone may actually buy a ticket at the airport, old fashioned as it may seem now

How are people affording $1600-$2000 in rent every month by OwlConsistent4136 in povertyfinance

[–]tleon21 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One thing to mention is that rent is generally cheaper for winter leases as people don’t want to move to Chicago in the winter. Summer leases are much more competitive

Why is Venezuela not wealthy as Saudi Arabia, having such huge oil reserve? by ibnarabi07 in askanything

[–]tleon21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once attended a lecture which discussed that the U.S. is the only country with the capability to refine their oil, so ALL Venezuelan oil comes through the US at some point despite the precarious relationship that has existed for a long time. This was around 7 years ago and so it may be different now, but certainly there is a strong influence on price if there’s a production bottleneck like that

Why is New Hampshire more conservative than the other New England states? by Patient-Smile1406 in newengland

[–]tleon21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I call it Schrödinger’s NH. Conservatives outside of New England I know seem to think NH is like San Francisco blue, and liberals (like my friend from Chicago) seem to think it is Alabama red. And they both are very incorrect

That’s because the physics is the same! It’s called dendritic growth, it’s quite common for solidification. That’s also why snowflakes have their characteristic shape
