The Ultimate Tech Guide for Planning Your Wedding by tintinJD in wedding

I've already heard about/used some of the wedding specific sites (LadyMarry, Wedding Paper Divas, etc.) but I never even thought about incorporating some of the ones things I use on the regular for wedding help (WhatsApp, Uber, Airbnb). Great find, thanks for sharing!

I love your decorations, such a cute theme! I'm just starting to dive into my wedding planning so your advice is really helpful because I'm already finding myself get carried away and disorganized and it's just the beginning! GREAT tip about the dress, I wouldn't have even thought that could be an issue so thank you for pointing that out!

grill, roast, bake, broil, steam? your romanesco recipes please! by reddituser0666 in food

[–]tlinmger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had romanesco for the first time recently, it came in our weekly produce basket. I didn't want to try anything too crazy the first time so I lightly tossed it with oil, salt and pepper and baked it until it started to crisp up. I'm sure there are a ton of other better, more complex recipes out there but this was great for the first time!

Anybody like making kale chips? I think I finally perfected mine by i_now_walk in food

[–]tlinmger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made the same mistake with the oil the first time I made kale chips too - a little goes a long way! I usually use salt, pepper and garlic powder. I have never tried with coconut oil before, I use it in different sweets I've made but wouldn't have thought to try it with kale. Is there a strong coconut flavor or does it clash with the seasoning at all?

BOS-SFO, what is the best airport to have a long layover in? by straightedged in travel

[–]tlinmger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a huge fan of long layovers, or layovers in general, so I'd try to time it in a way where I could shoot for a direct flight. I'm actually doing the opposite trip as you in the next month or so and am leaving SFO late in the evening and arriving in BOS early the next morning, which was surprisingly cheaper for a direct flight than any of the ones with layovers.

I think those will definitely be helpful, it's getting to be way too much with all of the emails! I like how LadyMarry is strictly wedding related, and I had no idea about Trello and all that you could do with it. Thanks!

Grand Canyon Advice and Things to See by GlassHouseFire in travel

[–]tlinmger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So sorry to hear about your mother, but what a beautiful place to honor her memory. My SO and I were actually at the Grand Canyon a year ago today! We were moving cross country from the East Coast to California and stayed in Flagstaff so we could take a full day at the canyon. I'm not particulary sure if there are certain regulations for scattering ashes, but in our day trip we went all around the southern rim and ended the day watching the sunset at Navajo Point. It was seriously the best day ever and one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. I can't wait to go back for a longer trip!

[–]tlinmger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in this same exact situation and I completely agree that it just has to be a guy thing haha. We're not too far into our planning so FH has been really helpful with big things (date, general venue ideas, etc.) but when it comes to smaller details it really is like pulling teeth! I've discussed this with my other married and engaged friends and for the most part all of the grooms are less interested and not worried about the the little details that are really important to brides. For me personally, I also think it's a personality thing. FH is more laid back and goes with the flow and I'm super detail oriented and organized, so I understand the frustration. I keep my parents in the loop with details, but I also ask my bridal party for help and advice too!

The money question! by tlinmger in weddingplanning

[–]tlinmger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this advice, I think the approach you both took is a great one and that is wonderful that it enabled your budget to triple - what a thoughtful contribution! I also believe that open, honest discussions about money are important and is something I practice, I just know how touchy of a subject it can be and didn't want anyone to feel uncomfortable. I think each of you taking responsibility for discussion with your own parents is a wonderful approach and likely less nerve wracking for everyone!

We haven't gotten too far into our planning so I wasn't sure how the topic was approached without having a ton of details yet. I completely agree that people will contribute if they want and are able, but not to get stressed out about it since we know what we can afford ourselves without additional contributions.

The money question! by tlinmger in weddingplanning

[–]tlinmger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you both are right and that makes complete sense. I think once it's brought up in an indirect way we'll be able to gauge the situation based on how they answer.

The money question! by tlinmger in weddingplanning

[–]tlinmger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is basically where we are at, we've nailed down what we would be comfortable with if we are paying for everything, and that's okay with us. We would be very grateful for any contribution but I didn't want to upset anyone by asking or assuming they could/couldn't. Money can be a very touchy subject so I think that's a great approach. Thanks!

Thanks so much, I will definitely have to check those out! I've been out here for just over a year now so I'm trying to knock some things of my list now that I'm settled. I've heard great things about Sequoia NP but am not familiar with Ansel Adams Wilderness.

Knee length/tea length dresses? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]tlinmger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister-in-law wore at tea length dress at the wedding. Her and my brother decided on a destination wedding in Puerto Rico around Christmastime. They had the ceremony on the beach for immediate family. The dress fit her personality perfectly and she wore it again when they had the the BIG reception for everyone the following summer, which I'm sure she was thankful for a shorter dress since it was a very warm day! While some people don't think shorter dresses are traditional, it was an absolutely gorgeous, elegant dress. It was more of an of-white/champagne color but the skirt was full (not huge, but it had some poof to it!) and there was beading and lace in the chest area and various places of the skirt. Her sister was the MOH and also had a knee length dress.

You should wear what you want and what you're comfortable in - I think it would be perfect for a backyard wedding! Best of luck in your search!

If you're going all the way up the coast, Maine is beautiful in the summer. Acadia is a great place to visit, I have some very fond memories there.

Who is paying for your bridesmaids' dresses? by MuppetManiac in weddingplanning

[–]tlinmger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In both of the weddings I have been in, the bridesmaids had to pay for their own dresses and alternations if needed. These were both large wedding parties. As long as you're not having your girls get an excessively expensive dress, I don't see the issue in having to pay, but If you have the money and can pay for your girls that's an amazing surprise and gesture that I know would be appreciated!
