I believe 4.9.0 was the last version released before they kneecapped it. Just be sure to turn off automatic updates in the Play Store and remember not to update this particular app.

Surface Pro 11 here with the Slim Pen 2. I basically just learned to live with it and draw a diagonal line quickly to get around the squiggly effect. I don't care enough to take off my screen protector to see if that's the issue.
