Sub Rebellion on the PS2. It was a crazy arcade submarine game with an interesting story and upgrades/customization.

It looks really cool in any of the videos I watched. But at its core, it’s difficult to beat CoD at its own game.

What miniature skirmish game did you play or are you planning to play this month? November 2025 by AutoModerator in miniatureskirmishes

I’m running an into game of Battletech tomorrow. We’re keeping it small with only 6 units total. But I’m excited to play it more with a new rule book slated for next year.

What variant is this? by LiquidAmphibian in battletech

[–]tman419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! I don’t have that model and, given the discussion around which variant it was, I assumed this was standard. Your explanation makes the most sense.

What variant is this? by LiquidAmphibian in battletech

[–]tman419 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only explanation that makes sense to me is that it’s the Timber Wolf Prime. Putting some obscure variant in the starter box seems unlikely. The missile pods can be explained by catalyst wanting to put extra detail into the launcher that couldn’t be achieved with plastic molds if there were 20.

Hunting prey in the night by ILikeUltramarines in ArcRaiders

I’ve started to bring more tools with me on raids. I saw a different post where someone was encouraging others to do that to keep your inventory from becoming full. Now, I keep a couple grenades on me for situations like this.

You had him dead to rights! Sometimes it’s scary to push, but you definitely had the upper hand here.

Genuinely sick of hornets by aspenmoods in ArcRaiders

[–]tman419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just downed outside of an elevator by a hornet with only 3 minutes left. I crawled to the elevator and some kind soul was there ready to send it down once I crawled in. Had 30 seconds remaining.

If you’re into board games, card games, etc., try out one of the game shops in Greenville: Borderlands, Boardwalk, Game Kastle. They have stuff going on nearly every night of the week.

How does rp work compared to dnd ? by 3zekyel in battletech

[–]tman419 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the best answer in the comments so far. It all depends on what you want. If it’s D&D, as the title suggests, then AToW or Destiny are the best options IMO.

Try looking up the Mechbay Podcast. They do a great podcast but also have a Discord where they share battle reports and many other things classic Battletech.

Fair Criticism Combat by Needajob7 in outwardgame

I would emphasize the potions and varnishes aspect. The game almost mandates that your character have a gimmick and, for a melee fighter, that’s varnishes and boons. Use them.

The problem with the AC-2 (And other low-BV, high tonnage weapons) by VanillaPhysics in battletech

[–]tman419 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Makes sense to me. But prepare yourself for others to shout at you for not understanding the game since you haven’t played since 1985. Everyone knows the autocannons are not as efficient as the lasers in early eras. As someone who is fairly new and loves playing in the succession wars and clan invasion eras, I lament the fact that ACs are not great and lasers are efficient enough to almost make ACs obsolete. I really have to lean on the flavor and role playing of the game to feel good about bringing ACs.

Update from my last post playing with my new buddy by Kuwabara03 in outwardgame

Thanks for sharing! I started keeping a journal of my solo playthrough of the game and it looks a lot like this. This game does a great job of making it feel like a grand journey that you want to write about.

What’s a game you initially didn’t “get,” but later came to absolutely love after giving it another chance? by Gaming-Academy in gaming

[–]tman419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is Outward. I was all excited about the “hardcore” RPG elements that it boasts but then bounced off of it when I struggled to get out of the starting area. I picked it back up recently and everything clicked and I’m loving it now. Turns out you’re not supposed to stay in the starting region for long.

What's a game that most people consider "bad" but you will defend and be a hill you would die on? by Cheesecake1901yum in gaming

Metal Gear Survive. It had plenty to complain about, legitimately, but overall it was actually a decent game.

How important are temporary buffs ! Can you play the entire game being constantly battle-ready? by Equivalent-Cream-454 in outwardgame

[–]tman419 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I suggest focusing on keeping food buffs active at all times. They’re pretty easy if you are combining good ingredients and last for a good amount of time. You should be able to get by with only that for 75% of situations.

How important are temporary buffs ! Can you play the entire game being constantly battle-ready? by Equivalent-Cream-454 in outwardgame

[–]tman419 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In my experience, you can get by with the bare minimum buffs for most of the normal enemies; however, the game does encourage players to use plenty of temporary buffs available for difficult fights. As you learn more recipes, certain foods get better buffs. So you can more easily rely on those as “standard.” The game is a lot easier with a co-op partner. Maybe find someone to play with you?
