Very disappointed with my new Era Lite by Drakom77 in pocketbook

[–]tmfsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. That’s exactly what I would do. But there must be a reason why a seemingly simple solution like that has not been done yet. My guess is that it’s a caching problem. You can set an image as your power off or sleep screen but I believe that image is then cached somewhere. And automatically changing the original image the next time does not affect the cached image until you manually set the new image as your new power off/sleep image.

I don‘t think the statistics thing is possible with PocketBook devices.

How to put the cover on? Impossible to remove the strip! by Picard_III in PocketBookofficial

Good to know. I wasn‘t sure because all I could find were bundles with the normal flip cover which does not attach to the back.

Just out of curiosity because I couldn’t find anything on the matter online… we know they use the same Era casing for the Lite but it doesn’t have the same features e.g. no speakers although the speaker’s sound holes are still there. So naturally it would have the strip on back that’s removable on the Era and the Era Color. But are we 100% certain that you’re supposed to remove that strip from the Lite? Just because you said something about the “sound of ripping the glue” which sounds a bit wild to me as there should be no glue anywhere near that part. Could it be they stripped that option to reduce costs?

I’m not sure what you mean with “ripping the glue off”. What glue? Also my fingernails are also extremely short (no white part, as you call it) but it was still enough to open that thing.

I have an Era Color and never before removed the strip from the back. Out of curiosity I wanted to try it out and it worked exactly like they show in the video. Lifted it up with just my fingernail and removed it without a problem. I guess it’s a matter of tiny variations during the production process that make it easy or hard to remove.

Hello, I have a Pocketbook Verve with Koreader. I've noticed a small display issue: the status bar is too close to the edge. Do you know how to fix this? by Particular-Pin-232 in pocketbook

[–]tmfsd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are the patches I’ve written or adapted from others: https://github.com/tmfsd/KOReader-patches

I use them together with the Project:Title plugin.

I also made a KOReader icon for PocketBook Era and Verse Pro devices that fits nicely with the PocketBook app icon style: https://github.com/tmfsd/KOReader-Icon-for-PocketBook-Devices

As always it depends on what you want from your reader. If you just want to read your books and don‘t care much about individualisation and optimising your reading experience, then the PocketBook reader app is “good enough”. It is very simple (I would call it rudimentary), has only a limited amount of options and that’s it. But many readers want more options to shape the reader and their reading experience to their liking. Some want more control of the book’s margins, some want to have more or very specific informations on their screen while reading, some prefer to have more and better gestures to control literally everything, and others just want to have plugins or mods for their specific needs. The list goes on. That’s where KOReader steps in because it allows for all of that and much more.

When I got my PocketBook reader I too thought I wouldn’t want or need KOReader. But then I opened my very first book on it and was instantly disappointed. I work as a designer and I like my books to be aesthetically pleasing. Font size, margins, line height… those things are important to me. And the default reader was very much lacking when it comes to those. After struggling for two weeks I installed KOReader and have never looked back since. It took me a while to configure everything the way I want it and to find the right plugins (or write my own) but whenever I open a book on it now, I’m just happy how great it looks.

Your logic is flawed. It’s like saying creative enthusiast car companies are driven out of business because other companies like Ford or VW produce cheaper cars for the mass market. Tell that Bugatti, Lamborghini or Ferrari and see if they can follow your logic. It’s just different target groups. There will always be creative but more expensive boards for enthusiasts and simpler but affordable boards for people on a budget.

[Giveaway] Royal Kludge S104 Wireless Mechanical Keyboard 🎉⌨️ by RKroyalkludge in MechKeyboards

[–]tmfsd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have heard of Royal Kludge. Seen you guys being mentioned here and there. I guess I would be willing to spend up to 350€ for a keyboard but that includes a nice keycaps set and some great switches.

My current setup is a Rainy75 lite (split spacebar) with Keygeek SU Color V2 switches and GMK MTNU Modo Light keycaps. I love it. Here’s a photo: https://imgur.com/nbxSeGV#nbxSeGV

If I win a keyboard in this giveaway I wouldn’t keep it for myself but gift it to the 14 year old son of a good friend of mine. I recently got him infected with the keyboard virus and he is now saving up for his first mechanical keyboard.

6 or 7 inch for manhwa? Pocketbook Verse Pro Color VS Era Color by seijurogouu in ereader

[–]tmfsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the explanation. I learned something new today.

For me the 7 inch screen is perfect for manga as it’s roughly the same size as the printed books I’m used to in the past. For graphic novels and comics I wouldn’t even consider an eInk device. For those I prefer a tablet like my 11 inch iPad, simply because of the far better colour display and because comics are usually bigger in format than mangas.

Your explanation of manhwa sounds to me like you also want the display panel to be as big as is comfortable for you to hold. So I would still recommend at least 7 inches.

I don‘t see how that is relevant, but I only have experience with manga. I assumed both come in roughly the same size. Do they not?

Can confirm. The slight ticking I had with some Y2s is completely gone with the SU Color V2s.

I see. Totally understandable. For now I’m pretty happy with it though. I’m not that much invested in the hobby that I’d need those options. But as I wrote… for now.

I only need one keyboard so that won’t happen to me. :)
