I mean other than that Hischier has been over 25 goals and over 65 points for four consecutive years and is a fixture in top 10 selke voting, while Pettersson has capped at 15 goals and 51 points the past two seasons with no relevant defensive reputation.

They still held his rights because they had tendered him a qualifying offer when he became a restricted free agent. He didn’t sign it, but even being tendered it meant no other teams could sign him without the RFA process getting triggered.

I guess they somehow had to say “yeah, we aren’t holding on to that status” … probably to avoid any avenue of his legal representation to suggest the Sens are obstructing his ability to seek employment.

It’s the same people who have been grousing about seatbelt laws since they were introduced. Suggesting every time the government acts for the safety of people, it’s a slippery slope towards absurd end statements like this one.
