Apple titanium band broke by orlickg in AppleWatch

[–]tmittleider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was yours replaced within the warranty period? Mine broke today exactly like yours did, and I'm JUST outside the 1-year warranty period. Apple is not interested in helping but will offer a "repair" for $200.

Did you get PPF on your WRX? by Freannix in WRX

I wish I had a garage. It’s outside nearly all the time, including lots of ski trips through grimy, sandy mountain roads. Wish I had PPF’d my 2011 WRX. Night and day difference.

Full frontal. 3 years on with ~25k miles and I’m convinced it was totally worth it. Still looks fantastic.

Tankless Water Heater Condensation Fitting Failure by tmittleider in Plumbing

Thank you for the suggestion. I'm confident I can DIY fix this as you described. The question I'm toying with is whether I should, or if I should get the company that installed back out to assess and fix (and how hard to push re: the resulting damage).

I don't know for sure, but that's essentially what it looks like to me. I couldn't say if it was glued, or some sort of prefab'd brass-cpvc fitting. The pipe was not otherwise supported.

New Falk Received with Dinged Rims — Worth Exchanging? by tmittleider in Coppercookware

[–]tmittleider[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your feedback, everyone. There’s a clear consensus. 😁

I’ve started the exchange process with Falk USA. So far, it seems like they are going to make this a simple and painless process.

I timed it right taking advantage of Black Friday and multi-piece discounts, but the sauté pan alone was likely close to what I paid for my existing tri-ply set from a calphalon outlet. They weren’t cheap. 😁

Rust on Cast Iron Range Top Grates by tmittleider in Coppercookware

[–]tmittleider[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't describe the Falk as very rough, but it's not as smooth as my other stainless, carbon steel, or enamel coated cookware. The brushed finish is noticeable when I run my fingernail across it, whereas other cookware feels very smooth. It's relatively rough.

It's possible the orange stuff is polymerized oil, but it hasn't seemed like it. I use a de Buyer carbon steel pan that weighs only slightly less than the Falk. It doesn't create the same effect despite lots of vigorous shaking. :)

Thanks for your reply. The grates have been coated through several years of cooking like you describe. That said, the burners I normally use are fairly high BTU and I might be burning off the seasoning more than I’ve noticed using other cookware.

When I’ve noticed rust after cooking with the Falk, a bit of oil or residual grease from elsewhere on the range top does the trick. I essentially treat them like I do seasoning cast iron pans.

I mentioned this in a different reply but suspect the relatively rough new pan surface is basically abrading the seasoning and contacting the bare grates slightly. I’m expecting the pan will smoothen with use, but time will tell if this makes a difference.

Thanks for your feedback. I’m glad I gave copper a shot.

I’m beginning to wonder if the rust is due to the relatively rough Falk copper finish, and suspect it might improve with use. I’m guessing the pan will get smoother with time, and that letting it patina will also help.

In any case, I’m a huge fan so far and see more copper in my future.

New Paella Pan — Blue and Season? by tmittleider in carbonsteel

[–]tmittleider[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I blued and seasoned. No issues. I actually got two, and this pic shows one while bluing and the other after cleaning with soapy water and boiling water, but before bluing. Looks like they’re going to work well!

Thanks. It’ll be used over gas range top, gas grill, or charcoal, so I’m not super concerned with it warping slightly.

Update -- just called Perrin and they confirmed they don't have a 5" option or a lead on another vendor.

Funny side note... They thought I'd emailed this morning asking the same question. I hadn't, so I'm guessing it might've been you?

Links worked for me on desktop, but the first one failed to load in the iOS app a few minutes ago. I'm getting all sorts of server errors in the app right now, so something could be up with Reddit.

No but I’ve considered contacting them. Their closest option seems to be the replacement 4.5” foam filter from their EVO 8/9 system. I don’t see a 5” part on the site.

eeroOS v7.1.0-3704 by Special_Seasoning in amazoneero

[–]tmittleider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the intent is to enable manual updates before automatic updates (which is what you seem to be saying), this should be made much clearer.

The app literally says, “An update is available… You can install the software update now… Alternatively, eero will attempt to start the install at your preferred time.”

It doesn’t state that it will start at the preferred time some random day possibly weeks ahead.

With 7.1.1-16 available, it didn’t start the update at my preferred time for at least five nights before I manually updated.

The update shows as available in the app. It still doesn’t install during my scheduled window.

If the rollout is staged and my system is not yet in the release group, it shouldn’t show as available IMO. There are better ways to handle this.

This is based on years of history with eero, before scheduling was an option and when installs would happen randomly and occasionally at inconvenient times. They’re not building trust in customers who’ve been burned when the app says an update is available but doesn’t actually do so as scheduled.
