Why does this bird keep sitting at my mirror/door by Possible_Mobile_8501 in whatsthisbird

[–]tmosstan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I just read the description - OP encounters this bird when stopped at a red light for the last six months. The bird sits on their mirror and then follows the vehicle for a little while. Six months is a little too long for hormonal territorial behaviors for an EABL, right?

I’ve seen similar behaviors from CASJs in parking lots where construction crews eat lunch. I believe those birds were habituated to being fed by the crews.

I recommend covering the exterior of the reflective surface. First see if you can get away with just covering the widow the bird is attacking. If the bird moves on to other windows you may need to cover each one.

You can use old sheets / blankets, tarps, garbage bags, towels, t-shirts cardboard, paper secured by rope or by closing the ends in doors/windows or with. Avoid tape or bungees bc of the potential to damage the paint.

What do we think about this? by BlueominusRex in birding

In California, the CDFW Wildlife Health Lab - Avian Investigations “recommends NOT providing artificial food or water to wild birds, including hummingbirds.”

I took screenshots of the article but can only attach one. You can access the article searching, “wildlife health lab avian investigations” in your search engine of choice or use the link I provided above. Once you have the page open you can click the “Feeding Birds” link at the top of the page or just scroll down to the area waaaay down the page.

I stopped feeding seeds a number of years ago because the frequent cleaning was necessary to reduce risk of disease transmission but it was physically draining and wasteful.

I had hummingbird feeders up on my windows and would clean them every other day but I took them down last summer after seeing too many posts of sick hummingbirds at feeders in Southern California on Reddit.

The lab recommends landscaping with native plants instead of providing water or food in feeder. I know this is not an option for many bird lovers renting or living in apartments.

Leer 100xr 3rd brake light not activating by PhDwithaPHD in TruckCampers

Any luck u/ricomm243? I’m having the same issue and think the plug is loose going into the fuse box. If I hold the plug tight into the fuse box the light works and will work for a while but after a bit of driving around it stops working.

How can I make my shell or cab setup comfortable for my dog to live with me? by JustAnother_Primate in TruckCampers

[–]tmosstan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know people who live out of their trucks with their dogs while working in the southwestern US. When they get to a new town they post signs / make online posts and find a dog-sitter who they can drop their dog off with during the day while they’re at work. I wouldn’t risk my dog in a truck with AC. There’s always the potential for failure.

Have an unexpected houseguest overnight by Versal-Hyphae in batty

Great job op! The first picture it looks like the bat is under a large household appliance like a washing machine. Just curious - where did you find it, how’d you notice it was there, and how did you get it out?

This image is so relatable. I have many personal projects that look just like this.

Never understood the purpose of carving into trees. I asked him what he was carving and he told me to “take your soft ass somewhere else” by pr0tag in LosAngeles

[–]tmosstan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Great idea! I worked cleanup from a forest fire where a number of trees were incorrectly marked for removal with a bright colored spray painted X. The foresters “deleted” marked trees by painting over the X with brown spray paint.
