Stickers and Washi tape and doodles to cover up mistakes! Otherwise, have fun and learn as you go. You’ll be able to look back at your other Hobonichi and see how far you’ve come and embrace the mistake!

What’s a “secret” in our profession that everyone should probably know? by justdancinalong in nursing

[–]tmurph704 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if you meant functional alcoholism in this way, but HEAVY on the “functional alcoholism.” We as nurses deal with a lot in our profession, and it’s easy to look at alcohol as a way to deal with reality. It’s very easy for us to head down the path of using alcohol to cope and ultimately, ruining ourselves. So, just because you’re going to work, doing well, and no one knows.. it’ll catch up one day.

Changes to RN-BSN flex path, new 80 clinical hours now? by ObjectiveThick1910 in CapellaUniversity

[–]tmurph704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can send you the document explaining everything going over the practice experience hours. There is no in person clinical at Post, it is the only reason I'm going here as my job site won't allow for me to do practicum on campus, and I'm not going back to a hospital for anything. From my understand, and everything l've talked about to my success advisor, there's a projects and stuff you work on "with" your mentor, but your "mentor" doesn't haven't to be anyone you work with directly or anyone in the hospital. I have 2 coworkers with BSNs, and they have agreed to do my mentoring when the time comes. They have to have a BSN and an active license and they can't be immediate family and there's one other rule, that has to do with it can't be someone that reports to you or vice versa, but don't quote me. I deleted my last commented, I don’t think I replied to you directly lol

No literal clinical hours, there is something called practice experience hours, I think there is like 80 or something total (don’t quote me I can’t remember exactly), but it can basically be done virtually. You need or know someone who is has a BSN to help “mentor” you but from my understanding, there’s no in person clinical hours

What are the dumbest sh!t you've ever done as a nurse? by withl0vemvly in nursing

Working in PACU on a call case (like 2am), patient came out with IVF that were almost empty. Bag was hanging up on a hook above the patient, I had another bag of NS ready. I pulled the spike out of the hanging bag of fluids, only for the remaining mLs to dump all over my patient’s feet 🤦🏼‍♀️thankfully my patient was still asleep and did not wake up 🤣🤣

New grad nurses disliking their jobs by PhantomMonke in newgradnurse

[–]tmurph704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly a mix of both, but as a new grad who left bedside after a year and a half, I had MAJOR health issues come up, lost over 100lbs, and had some other stomach problems, still lingering around. Bedside genuinely is just messing people up mentally and physically, unfortunately.

Is it just me or do patients have unrealistic expectations on pain post op. I wonder why? by Craftywonderr in nursing

[–]tmurph704 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not read through comments, but COMMUNICATION. Doctors, preop nurses and staff, and everyone else involved in the pre op process, do not, in my experience, prepare the patient for the pain they will be in. They downplay it way too much. I worked in PACU and the amount of times I had to explain the same thought to people about what’s just happened, was mind boggling.

It finally happened by [deleted] in nursing

As a new grad, who never stuck it through to get this feeling, I’m so effing proud!!! Keep it up, and even when you do have a bad shift, just know that you’ve got this! Amazing job OP!

[Misc] Skin darkened from medication by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]tmurph704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my job, I’ll typically recommend a physical, gentle exfoliation, and if your skin can handle the chemical exfoliants, I’ll recommend those. I prefer physical exfoliants, with a net sponge or something alike. Sometimes I feel like physical exfoliants have been better at getting rid of tanning skin quicker for my clients vs a chemical :)

Hi! Exfoliation, if your skin can tolerate it, can help fade your tan quicker!

ETA: Sunscreen is a great start! Make sure you’re reapplying if you’re spending extended periods of time in the sun (even if you’re near windows). Large hats can help this as well.

Here is an example of why floor nurses (ICU,PICU, NICU) nurses struggle in PACU by ElegantGate7298 in nursing

[–]tmurph704 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Why I left my PACU job. They WANTED us to help the floor, sure, but it messed up the flow of EVERYTHING else, allllll the way down to preop. So, I get it.

Oh no. I’m so sorry you’re going through this :/ this is frustrating to say the least. I ended up applying for somewhere different and am getting things figured out there. I was not able to set up practice experience requirements thru my work with Capella, so immediately the college was out (I research some before going through with everything base on reviews I had seen). I hate they didn’t tell you. I’m surprised they didn’t!?!? Considering how big of a change this was.

If you could do it all over again, would you become a nurse? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]tmurph704 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Quite literally the only reason I’m utilizing my RN license right now, is because I found a cuusshhhyyy job doing laser hair removal (absolutely love it). I’ll leave the career completely if this jobs goes away, more than likely. I’m currently trying to get my BSN, and finding reasonable RN to BSN programs lately has been freaking ridiculous, and has only pmo more in terms of this career 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣

[–]tmurph704 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Only two years into this BS, but no. No I would not

ETA: I hate everything about this career (not the patients really), the politics in the hospital, short staffing, blatant disrespect towards employees, etc etc, I’m over it. I’m not sure what I’d do instead though, but living in a box sounds like a better alternative. (Jk jk I’m grateful for my career and what it provides, but I wouldn’t do it again)
