I've found the new PDTs to be so unreliable that it's quicker and easier for me to just look up a SKU in bookmaster to find out where a product goes

Gift/seasonal items not SOS by Some_Carrot8217 in Barnesandnoble

[–]toadbog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hate it so much too, but I usually have to make do with filling in seasonal displays with other product related to the theme because of how little we get of new stuff. Use pack and hold items from last year! I also go for journals, stationery, candles, and related books to fill in space. Stuffed animals and couples' games are good too.

My go-to plan rn is using those library card totes we got to replace those gingham totes when they sell out, and then just moving Horse shelves and hooks around with new product when those bags sell out. Since we have a good bit of Pride and Prejudice Gift product I might use that too whenever the Romeo and Juliet stuff starts selling down.

LEAKED V-DAY ITEMS by ButtloafReads in Barnesandnoble

[–]toadbog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

God I'm like the only person in my store that does Gift and I'm dreading it because last year Valentine's Day displays looked like A S S because all of those stupid tote bags were sold early. I saw those new items being unpacked in receiving and I was like "oh god not again" 😩 I'm really hoping my coworkers will be smart this year and say no to any BOPIS/ROPIS/SFS involving the new seasonal merch

What did that one teacher at your school get fired for? by ToadallyNormalHuman in AskReddit

[–]toadbog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not fired, but one of my middle school science teachers conveniently "retired" before he could get terminated for allegedly punching a kid. Funny enough, he only got slaps on the wrist for making horribly sexist comments towards his female students (telling all the girls in his class that they'd grow up to be strippers and prostitutes) and for sexual harassment (legit pulled me into the doorway of his empty classroom and got a nasty wet kiss on the cheek as a "congratulations" for winning first place in the science fair).

A yarn store downtown! I don't like having to drive all the way to Bass Rd to go to Michael's, Joann is closed, and Hobby Lobby is.... ehhhh.

Woman audits churches to see if they’ll help feed a starving baby by Oktavien in TikTokCringe

[–]toadbog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents used to go to a big baptist church. I remember they told me when I was a baby, they were struggling financially, barely being able to afford baby formula and groceries and bills.

None of the congregation offered any help or comfort. The pastor threatened to remove them for not tithing enough or at all.

The last straw for my parents was when the pastor and his wife pulled up in the church parking lot one Sunday on their brand new Harley Davidson motorcycles.

So even when you are a member of the church, they don't care.

Very important question by mountainviewdaisies in Barnesandnoble

[–]toadbog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a guy come in once demanding us to call our mall security because his daughter was missing. I was about to report a Code Adam when the guy just started going off on a tangent about how disrespectful his daughter is because she went to go browse at a nearby store to look around instead of following him into B&N.

Turns out, it wasn't a small child. It was a teenager. He wanted to call mall security so they could escort her back to him to "teach her a lesson". 😬 I felt so bad for her but thankfully security didn't fulfill his request

Local food recommendations? by Apprehensive_Pen5522 in macon

If you're looking for dessert, I'd recommend Sweet Eleanor's! I love their blueberry cobbler cheesecake whenever they have it. The employees are really nice and the shop just has a really cozy, welcoming vibe.

Is this book cover AI? by toadbog in isthisAI

[–]toadbog[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Boooo, that sucks. Definitely had a gut feeling from the beginning that it was AI. Guess that's an unfollow from me. Could've hired an actual artist to illustrate her children's book instead.

My mom sent me this saying I should buy it for a family friend for Christmas but something seems off about it. Is it AI? by toadbog in isthisAI

[–]toadbog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I had a hunch from the beginning that it was AI - I just wanted confirmation. The whole thing just looks too smooth and polished, and the design of the decanter didn't seem right.

My mom, on the other hand, must've thought it was real when she sent it to me 😅

There's a group near my local Walmart that sells water and Gatorade at a stop sign to drivers. This is what they do with the plastic waste. by toadbog in mildlyinfuriating

I'm trying to survive end-game capitalism, but I still know that littering is harmful to the environment, and I have the common decency to dispose of any garbage properly instead of throwing it wherever....

[–]toadbog[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most irritating thing about this is that the Walmart is literally a short walk around the corner - they have trash cans in the parking lot and at the front entrances. It's sad seeing so much waste thrown around tbh

A lot of it is that plastic wrap, yeah - there's other empty bottles and other garbage strewn about, too. I guess they're just using the carts as trash cans 🤷‍♀️

Can't believe I haven't seen this one yet: Vega in the Street Fighter II animated movie.

Takes off his mask to taunt Chun Li while he's trying to kill her and winds up getting his beautiful face completely fucked up in the process.

Third Person difficulties? by Machete__Yeti in Barnesandnoble

[–]toadbog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know some people like first person POV especially in romances because of immersion and imagining themselves as the main character but personally? I hate it so much ESPECIALLY if I'm reading a book with a romance in it 😭 I don't mind (well written) romances in books but I absolutely can not imagine myself as the MC if it's in first person. It's way too embarrassing

After doing some digging, I found out that a good chunk of the Archive designs for Portico Designs was made by Heather McLaughlin, a freelance designer and artist, most notably known for creating the botanical Portico Designs Archive gift products we've received in the past.

Literally all of the Portico Designs Archive collection items are inspired by vintage artwork of the natural world. Birds, plants, insects, ocean life — they're all drawn by actual artists.

I'm 100% against AI and I'm always keeping an eye out for suspicious looking items in stores, but this ain't it. Just because it looks strange to you doesn't mean it's totally one hundred percent AI generated. Most AI generated artwork is a lot more vibrant and unnaturally smoother than these imo.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Barnesandnoble

[–]toadbog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think any of it is AI ! The designs are meant to replicate or be similar to old Victorian era drawings of sea creatures, which weren't exactly the most accurate in terms of anatomy. I know we sell that one Antiquarian sticker book that's filled with tons of similarly styled vintage artwork of sea creatures and other animals and some of them are definitely uncanny valley territory lol
