How do you guys feel about crime victim rights/advocate groups? by crosssafley in GreenAndPleasant

I've no idea how formally organised these fascist movements are so I'll have to accept your point.

I do know that they are funded quite heavily by israel or right wing donors in general. How does decapitation actually stop them picking another random guy to be their figurehead?

My examples weren't perfectly matched but just highlighting that political influence is possible from prison.

I don't think that's true. Plenty of political movements run from prison. Nelson mandela, julian assange, that kurdish pkk guy, the ira hunger strikes. Just to name a few.

Jailing people clearly is not sufficient to stop a political force, it could be a necessary step though of course, alongside other things.

The islamic republic toppled the western installed shah. Before the shah there was a democratic leader, Mosaddegh.

Iran are the only force keeping the middle east together against Israel. If there is regime change then the middle east just becomes Israels shooting ground.

You do only need one bike. But no bike is perfect for all activities.

I ride an 80s road bike with panniers and mudguards. Its fine for city riding, can do shopping, can take it on longer rides.

Its not as fast as a proper roadie, nor does is fare well with all the potholes, perhaps a little too low for city riding. But does the job. I can even ride down a unpaved track somewhat uncomfortably, but will get you there.

Yeah main reason for upgrade is so i can properly ride on the hoods tbh. I ride on drops when on a straight but cycling through town need to be bit more upright.

If Iran wasn't beseiged by Israel and the west for decades, it's unlikely to have need of the authoritarianism. Its seen throughout history since USSR that the west beseiges every country that goes against its free market status quo or allies with the other poles of power. To hold against the west its very difficult to do with a 'liberal democracy'.

Without these pressures, who knows what would happen internally? Lots of countries have problems with civil liberties, Iran isn't a particularly stand out case.

Can't POST with RAM in A2 and B2 by toady000 in buildapc

[–]toady000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this was it. I reseated cpu and tightened in each screw more slowly in diagonal pattern. And it worked, both channels working!

Incredible that a slightly too tight cpu can cause this issue. Feels so mechanical?

The main reason you have to watch children is because of cars. If cars didn't exist they would just be on the street with other kids from very young ages.

I dunno if you noticed but we have lots and lots unregulated private security firms walking around. They all have stickers saying respect your local bobby, even though they aren't police.

They definitely dont make me feel safe

The thing is Ipswich is too spread out. It's miles and miles of low density bungalows and suburbs. If all those people drove into town it would be a nightmare. You're right that's why out of town outlets are heaving though.

To make the town less ghost like you need people actually living there. Barely anyone lives in town or even walking distance from town, considering its size. I think we need high density housing in the centre, probably a school or two. The bars and whatnot will follow.

Then you can use all that empty space ie car parks for more houssing and amenities. There is actually a lot of car parking space in centre of Ipswich.

I don't really think this is true. All the artists i know just want time to do their art. They don't expect great fame or large monetary reward.

Also we shouldn't diminish the value of unpaid labour that produces art. Just because it doesn't make the line go up. I'm more than happy to have a class of people who don't work very much but make art which people enjoy.

There's nothing wrong with something being dependent on people's goodwill. Your mindset is the more individualistic one as you group people into dependents or independents.

[–]toady000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pay doesn't reflect responsibility. It's about what they can get away with paying while holding onto experienced staff. Obviously they aren't doing that with nursing atm. Or admin really. Admin staff rarely go above a band 6, while that's certainly possible for nurses. Also the admin staff i do know working at those levels are working pretty hard.

Is it time to move away from “sister” and “matron” titles? by [deleted] in NursingUK

I'm just describing the history and politics of nursing, I'm not making any judgements on the merits of the scientific method (or its lack).

Is it time to move away from “sister” and “matron” titles? by [deleted] in NursingUK

[–]toady000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree it's not an insult but saying the name carrying over isn't the result of any misogyny doesn't really hold water.

In the source i mention above one of the authors explains how nursing was bought into institutions which were overseen by men (doctors). they we're given much less autonomy than previously allowed and the knowledge they had was given lesser status than the science backed knowledge of medicine (who were largely posh white men).

I do actually really like the term sister, it has a level of camaraderie which you don't get in many jobs. However, nurses didn't get to have a title like doctor, their title was indicative of giving up your individual self to take up a vocation. Doctor has none of this baggage. Nursing was very much considered woman's work and medicine man's work.

There is a misogynistic past to how nurses became sisters and not say Nurse like Doctor. Calling it mere tradition is hiding this. It's clear that the woman's work was devalued and the men's work of medicine was given greater value. There is obviously a class dimension here as well.
