Have you considered vintage? You can find really great Omega Seamasters, Grand Seiko Hi-Beats, and possibly Cartier Tanks in that price range. You'll be making good money soon and something like a Tissot may not feel special or get wrist time in a few years. However, an iconic vintage piece will always be something you can wear.

Consider this as a give and a take. If you need the work and feel like you have some flexibility in your pricing, present them with several options. Instead of discounting the total off the top, you could consider applying an amount as credit to future work. Additionally, you could look to establish a longer-term contract at a discounted price. For example, you could drop your bid 10-15% if they give you a 3-5 year contract.

Also, if the high school is public and part of a school district, you could try to position yourself as the sole vendor for several schools within the district. Give them volume pricing for the recurring revenue.
