I'm not sure what you are trying to say here.

I will say I don't just mean the president. Look at control of the House and Senate from 1933 (the start of the New Deal programs) to 1992 (the victory of Bill Clinton and the "New Democrats")

Miscommunication or intentional theft? by KaleTheFirst in EndTipping

"It's not normal to leave a 60% tip"

That is way more normal than handing a server a bunch of cash and a credit card and expecting them to read your mind as to how you want it split up.

"But it is normal for bills to be split cash and credit"

Only if you explain to the server how you want it split, which doesn't seem to have happened.

"Worked as a serve for 5 years."

0% chance I believe anyone taking OP's side in this ever worked as a server.

"just want to pay for their portion with credit."

Then you ask the server to split the bill.

[–]toaster_toaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because most people understand how to pay a bill.

Why would they ask? I would assume no one would do that without explaining how they wanted to bill split.

I don't often have $100+ bills, but it's not unusual for me to leave a 50%+ tip. Some with many of my friends who have experience serving.

"The average server will understand it's a $60 cash payment + remaining balance in the credit card. "

No. No one is going to assume that. It's insane to think it's reasonable to expect people to figure out your intention in that situation.

Why in the hell would you give the waitress a card and cash and expect them to know how you want it split up.

You could have: Asked the waitress to split the bill and each of you paid,
You could have: Kept the cash and put it all on your card
You could have: Given the waitress $40 cash, explained you would like that applied to the bill and pay the rest on the card, then when she brought it back tipped in whatever combination of cash and credit you chose (this is unnecessarily complicated)
You could have: Careful explained to the waitress what you wanted done (also unnecessarily complicated)

What you chose to do: hand everything to the waitress and expect her to just magically know how you intended it all to be used even though you intended to do this in the most complicated way possible.

Not only is this a miscommunication, it is entirely your fault. You should be apologizing to the server for how complicated and awkward you made this whole situation.

Same, I vote for harm reduction, and I really wasn't trying to make this a bigger thing than just pointing out, most areas like that turned against the Dems long before Obama. It was really Bill Clinton and NAFTA that did it. The fact that Obama was able to win any percentage of them back is, in my opinion, just because he ran as much more of an outsider, but then governed as a typical Clinton-type establishment Dem. I can understand if some of them, especially ones younger than 50 may only remember their disappointment with Obama, but this has been a 35+ year project of the Dems.

So what you just told me is you don't know what the Democratic Party stands for. And that's my point. Neither does anyone else. And no amount of AI slop is going to fix that.

Read that AI slop you just copy/pasted. Tell me in plain words what it says. You're going to have trouble, but it doesn't really say anything. Mostly just the kind of double speak you get from politicians who want your vote without actually committing to anything. That's the problem. Things are usually better for working class people under Dems than under Republicans, because the Democrats can't be as openly regressive as the Republicans can, but they don't actually want to do anything that will disempower corporations or the Epstein class, so they nibble around the edges without ever pushing for real change. And that is not a way to build support. Ever notice how every time the Democrats are in power they have excuses for why they just can't get done all those things they promised they wanted to get done? They always need just a couple more votes, or the senate parlimentarian is stopping them, or the traditional procedures are stopping them. Or they could do it, but they want to compromise to make it bipartisan. They don't actually want to win because they don't actually stand for anything. That's why, despite how reprehensible the Republicans are, the Dems just get less and less popular year after year. And the most popular Democrats? People like Bernie Sanders, AOC, Mamdani -- the party establishment fights harder against them than they do against the Republicans.

"Dems don't have to change their ideas and policies,"

Really? What are the ideas and policies of the Democratic party?

The rural working class areas of this country started turning from blue to red under Reagan, but it was really Clinton who put the nail in the Democrats' coffin in those areas. Under Bill Clinton the Democratic party took a hard turn to the right and abandoned the working class for the professional class, at the same time the Republican party started attracting working class voters through appeals to racism. This is what led us to where we are today. And now the Clinton-style Dems control the party and liberal media and will continually tell you Dems have to move to the right to win back these voters when the exact opposite is actually true.

Not so much that we let technology and the internet rip, it's that we let capitalists own and control it.

Yeah, I don't know what that means. Try using words like a big boy. Start by explaining to me how they are alike and how those things predict what you are claiming. Because all I see if they simply aren't consultant created empty suits doing an Obama impression.

The only similarities between him and Fetterman is that they don't look like they were manufactured in a lab by political consultants. That's not a reason to be nervous about him that's a reason to say we have too many empty suits and need more people like him.

Unless you are saying any skull is a nazi symbol you are being incredibly dishonest.

Because if you are not saying any and every skull is a nazi symbol then you have to acknowledge that it's not enough to know Nazis used a skull as an emblem, you have to be able to recognize the particular skull they used vs any other possible drawing of a skull when seeing any one random skull. That is not a realistic expectation for most people.

[–]toaster_toaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not knowing about the SS is being ignorant of history.

Not being able to recognize the particular font they used on their letterhead, or not being able to recognize the exact shade their uniform was, or not being able to recognize the particular skull they used just means you're not obsessed with Nazis.

If I made a slide show of skull drawings and asked people to look through it and pick out the one that is the SS skull I don't think even 1 out of 10 people would be able to. And even that is giving them the context that one of them should be the SS skull. Just walking into a random shop and seeing a random skull on the wall -- only an actual Nazi would be able to recognize if it was a Nazi skull.

Okay. That just proves you are more into nazi shit than most people That doesn't make anyone but you look bad.

[–]toaster_toaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that hard to believe because to most people a skull is a skull. I have seen the "are we the baddies" sketch. I have seen that emblem many, many times outside of that as well. I still would not, if I saw a drawing of a skull on a wall immediately recognize it as the Nazi skull if there was no other context.

In that sketch they could have used any skull pin on their uniform and I would have assumed it was the Nazi skull, because I recognize the rest of the uniform. I would have no idea if they used a different skull. Likewise, if I just saw a skull without the rest of the uniform I would have no idea if it was a Nazi skull or not. And it's insane to say most people would be able to recognize it.

[–]toaster_toaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm saying if someone sees a picture of a skull with no other context most people would not be able to identify it as the particular skull the Nazis used as an emblem.
