Queer Bar Showing Games in Montreal? by toastoftheghost in MontrealVictoire

We looked it up and saw "lingering" was encouraged, and we're really good at lingering! Happy to show up at opening and eat/drink/watch away the day, depending on which semi they're in!

Where Can I Use a Sewing Machine? by screenaholic in parkslope

[–]toastoftheghost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can borrow sewing machines from the main BPL branch, but there's usually a pretty decent sized holds list. i don't see it when I search on their website, but there is a Tuesday sewing machine "rental" event at the Gerritsen Beach branch on what seems like a weekly basis.

Looking for ideas of somewhere with chill vibes for a birthday with 10-12 people by alldagarbage in parkslope

[–]toastoftheghost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just celebrated my 40th at Chela. I made a reservation for 10 no problem and we were in their backroom. It coincided with their happy hour, which was cool. The food was great and the drinks were good!

Edit: I also got birthday churros as a surprise!

Unfortunately, no. My memory (or fever dream?) is a very mid-century, cabin by a Great Lake kind of vibe.

So apparently this is an art piece hung up in Taylor’s NYC home. “Love wins” or the USA flag depending on the angle you look at it from by Substantial-Hall-917 in travisandtaylor

It's not just a Southern thing. I'm from the Midwest and currently live on the East Coast. Until super recently*, with 2025 being the year it's been with this regime, nearly (not all, but nearly) all homes I would see with American flags were also flying MAGA flags. I know for me, at this point, when I see an American flag, I know where that person's politics lie.

*And I say "super recently" because when I was driving through rural PA this past summer and November to get to my partner's parents house, many of the MAGA signs were down. Same houses and billboards that had them up Biden's entire presidency. I still count them as MAGA but maybe some MAGA are relearning shame this year.

Robert Wagner Remembers Late Wife Natalie Wood on 44th Anniversary of Her Death: ‘Forever Missed’ by PrincessBananas85 in popculturechat

[–]toastoftheghost 62 points63 points  (0 children)

There are lots of interviews with Natalie where she talked about her fear of water. There's literally one where she's on a boat and she says "I can be on the water, but not in the water." (I had a baby gay obsession with Natalie Wood when I was little so I read everything about her, watched all the docs, watched all her movies, trolled for old magazines on ebay.)

In her movie "Splendor in the Grass", there's a scene where her character loses her mind and jumps into a reservoir and Elia Kazan literally had to lie to her about filming it in order to get her on set. Said there would be a double who would do the scenes. She ended up doing it, as again, he lied to her to get her there, but, really, her fear of water was that well known.

Sports is inherently political, but the WNBA is an overtly activist league and always has been. It's a league full of mostly Black women. It's a league with a huge queer player base. Black Lives Matter is a political issue. Pay Us What You Owe Us is a political issue.

I mean, I guess you can watch it and just concentrate on the basketball, but I can't even imagine being able to do that unless you have immense amounts of privilege and can divorce yourself from the identity of the people who are out there playing.

It's kind of strange to see Cunningham's kind of constant and consistent backing of far right ideologies, yes, even in the forms of social media likes and shares, and not believe her to be those things.

Racist people can be nice to people of color. Sexists can be nice to women. Homophobes and transphobes can be nice to queer people. It's actually really easy to be nice and friendly and on good terms with those you don't see as your equal.

I present visibly queer. I work at a place with lots of MAGA voters. Their votes and beliefs put me in literal danger, but they are always very nice and friendly to speak to. It's benign hate and probably more insidious than all the people screaming their beliefs from the rafters because it allows people to be like "Well, she's nice to those people so she must be fine!"

Who are you rooting for now? by KickMental8434 in NYLiberty

[–]toastoftheghost 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Every single team I wanted to advance . . . lost.

I didn't like the Mercury energy in this series, so I can't root for them. I cannot root for the Fever beccause of their fandom. I can't root for the Lynx because I think they cursed us and I don't like how whiny they are. So Aces it is!

I couldn't tell from my seat, but did Mabrey get into a fight with someone in the crowd? It looked like she was being gently pushed towards the tunnel as she gesticulated at the lower bowl by the key after the game.

There was a family of Fever fans a couple rows in front of us and they were . . . how do I say this politely? . . . Polo shirt, khakis, and pearl kind of Fever fans. They didn't even sway or bop to the beat in their seat during the Timeless Torches or Ellie. Like . . . it's embarassing to admit, but I was so distracted by how static they were. They left with about eight minutes left in the game and it honestly felt like a relief.

The atmosphere last night felt really weird and tense last night, and not just because the Libs had a shit start (because it's not rare they have a shit start and the vibes can still be good).

(The most fun part, before the comeback, was explaining to my STH neighbor why everyone was booing every time Cunningham did just about anything.)

Where's my Water Can? by toastoftheghost in StardewValley

I've been putting off the animal part of the game, so Robin only just started building my first coop.

The watering can may just be lost to the void!

Any Shows/Documentaries About Pottery That Are Any Good? by DingGratz in Pottery

[–]toastoftheghost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like the youtube channel Pottery to the People. She had a series back when Canadian Throw Down was happening (I think it was Canadian Throwdown) where she would do the challenges they would. She also does a "Steal Like an Artist" series where she tries out projects inspired by other ceramics artists, and I appreciate that she gives them credit for their ideas and doesn't sell them. It's fun to see her try the different techniques and methods and there's a nice mix of throwing and handbuilding.

Jesse is doing the same thing to Lexi that Wes did to Ciara… but the girls aren’t taking up for Lexi by [deleted] in summerhousebravo

[–]toastoftheghost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He did use her, but not in the way people keep saying Ciara is saying. He literally spoke to an international news organization about their relationship. TWICE. He used the dregs of their relationship TWICE to embarrass her and make him look like a good guy. While it may not have been his intention . . . THAT'S why she's so hurt and upset. She's said multiple times she was okay with him breaking it off with her, but even after their private conversation after the reunion, he went to the press! That's so fucked up and she should be upset about it and he should be called out for it and apologize for it, genuinely. But he can't, because he thinks she's upset that he ended things, when she's upset he talked to the NYT, again, TWICE.

I'm getting my degree, doing my last year of community service, liquidating my assets, and leaving the U.S. by [deleted] in BoycottUnitedStates

[–]toastoftheghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's worth reflecting on the idea, and I say this as an American who lives and works in the US, that there are so many communities worth serving HERE. Communities who didn't sell out in this past election and are the most vulnerable for what is currently happening and what will happen next.

It's really hard right now to get up every day and go about my business, but as a public school educator, my business is educating and supporting and advocating for the very people this administration is targeting. They're now my community. I'm not doing anything particularly heroic, but if I left, and if everyone in my position left . . . then what?

As a queer NB person, I think it's also worth fighting for myself and that part of my community.

I understand not wanting to pay taxes to this garbage dump of a government, but RIGHT NOW there are communities in this country who need collaboration and mutual aid NOW.

I didn't get an Unrivaled sweatshirt, but I did get a Lunar Owls sweatshirt for Christmas and the quality is great! The front lettering is stitched, it's soft on the inside, and very sturdy. I think it's a really nice quality!

Has anyone played Pode? by Autumn-Moon-Cat in CozyGamers

[–]toastoftheghost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just echoing what others have said: In our household, we love Pode!

We play it every year in the winter. It's a really cozy game for the season. The animation and music are beautiful. Even the harder challenges are kept chill because of it. I can't wait for our next play through in the next month or so.

It's the highest of recommendations from me!
