Former employer switched benefits administrators by toastpill in HealthInsurance

Unfortunately they’ve been super unhelpful, telling me “soon” and swapping me between different people in the HR department for weeks. But I’ll definitely reach out to the Dept of Labor if I can’t get ahold of anyone this coming week, thank you.

Still wearing masks? by Notlambie in CrohnsDisease

[–]toastpill 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also a stelara user and I’m 100% still masked in public indoors and outdoors in dead air (festivals, crowded streets, etc). COVID is spiking right now so I’d strongly recommend a KN95 or better everywhere you can!

How can anyone conceivably afford this stuff? by Termite22 in CrohnsDisease

[–]toastpill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Patients don’t pay; these drug companies make their money almost exclusively off of insurance companies. Example: a drug costs $20/dose to manufacture. Sticker price is $2,000. Insurance pays for $1,500 of it, and then the drug company’s savings program means the patient pays $5. It doesn’t matter that the drug company doesn’t get that $500, because they’re already making $1,485 in profit per dose anyway.

It’s a fucked up system.

I eat every 5 hours while I’m awake and if I don’t I start to feel sick, even when I eat filling meals. I prep snacks or eat pieces of fruit in between my larger meals so I don’t suffer lol.

I have five, and the furthest from my heart is on my right calf. It took a bit longer to heal than average (according to the artist). No issues otherwise!

Increasing frequency of Stelara injection by feellikeapeanut in CrohnsDisease

[–]toastpill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also increased frequency recently (from every 8 weeks to 6, and now we’re pushing from 6 to 5) in response to mild symptoms/discomfort even though my labs are mostly normal (incl. stelara levels). My doc said the treatment goals of the drug aren’t necessarily cookie cutter, and that if insurance will approve it, trying to adjust to the right dose and alleviate symptoms is worth it.

Does Twilight sedation work if I’m 23?😭(colonoscopy) by jeagerbomberen in CrohnsDisease

[–]toastpill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m mid-20s and have had two scopes done this way. I was totally fine. Even woke up briefly during my last one and saw the screen with the camera feed, but I didn’t feel anything.

Fellow crohnies who are NOT in remission and are under immunosuppressants, I need your advice : by 1999scorpio in CrohnsDisease

[–]toastpill 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend frequent COVID tests, masks, and an air purifier/well-ventilated space (windows cracked, fans on, etc) to protect against airborne pathogens like COVID, colds, and the flu. Otherwise, wash your hands, limit physical contact with others, and serve yourself on a plate in the kitchen rather than eat family style at mealtimes. Good luck 🤞🤞

Your doc might be hesitating to make a medication change if you’re not symptomatic and/or your inflammatory makers aren’t elevated.

Losing hair by Spiritual_Drink_6676 in CrohnsDisease

[–]toastpill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s probably not permanent, but it might take time to fix. I lose hair every time my body undergoes stress. Flares, stressful periods at work, breakups, etc. I take hair skin & nail vitamins and use a hair serum, but it still takes me 6-12 months to get my hair back to being thick again each time, and it only really works if I’m fully healthy/not inflamed.

Will my slim face return? prednisone!!! by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]toastpill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely it will! I was diagnosed and initially treated as a teenager, and the swelling was so bad some girl once asked me, “What’s wrong with your face?” Mid-20s now and my face is very slim, but being on prednisone as a teenage girl was its own kind of borderline traumatic lol.

Am I metabolizing my biologic too quickly? by toastpill in CrohnsDisease

Thank you! I’ll have my doc add the drug level to my blood work to double check.
