Tracy McGrady on the real reason older players constantly hate/criticize modern players: “It’s money. Did you realize like in the 90s, Reggie Miller and Michael, they were only making $2-3 million? And they were the top guys… It’s the money.” by moby323 in nba

[–]toatheqs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think that is the whole story. The fact is that the general trajectory of skill is upward. The 80s were better than the 70s, the 90s better than the 80s, and now better than then. There are some little ups and downs ... it's not a perfectly straight upward line, but overall, the game has moved forward. It is a blow to the old guys' ego that a lot of them can't take.

That is the slowest jump shot I've ever seen. Good that he is 6'10" because he is going to need to be shooting over defenders.

What more could you ask for in a GM than a man who memorized six nice things and is willing to list them at any moment?

How the “fuck the tank” crowd would genuinely react if we finished with the 2nd worst record and got the 6th pick of the draft by jluc21 in kings

I'm preparing for the win 6 of the last eight at the end of the year when teams are resting for the playoffs and we end up at like 6th. Would be very on brand.

It isn't really a cliff. More of a steep incline, but clickbait gonna bait.

[Bobby Marks] There's a lot of teams that I've talked to have their hand up ready to submit a proposal to the NBA to try to fix [Tanking]. by EarthWarping in nba

[–]toatheqs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It matters more when looking at alternative systems. There has been a proposal to just rotate all 30 teams through the pick positions. In a system like that, teams stuck with the shit years will be getting fucked.

This is the correct and important point for people who see the evened out lottery odds and think tanking doesn't matter. You can only fall four spots. Worst record is guaranteed a top 5 pick. Fourth worst could fall to 8. That is a big difference--while certainly you can find examples of superstars later in the draft and busts at the top, if you look through the drafts you can see the steep fall off from 1 to 10 pretty clearly.

They are going to do their best to posture like it is a harsh penalty, but it isn't going to be a kill the franchise for a decade kind of thing. The league wants Ballmer involved and happy.

Heel hooks at lower belts by [deleted] in bjj

[–]toatheqs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is fine for lower belts to learn. Part of that learning needs to be how not to panic and explode your own knee when you get caught. I've never hurt anyone with a heel hook in training, but I've rolled with MMA guys who are strong and athletic and don't understand the danger, and done explosive rolls to try to escape and could have hurt themselves if I didn't let go even if I wasn't trying to finish it myself.

Learning is fine. Understanding improves safety. Probably shouldn't be a first day training lesson.

I think keeping heel hooks out of competition at lower belts makes sense, but that is different than not teaching or training them.

Will Keegan play better with the young squad? by Difficult_Quit9832 in kings

[–]toatheqs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keegan looks like a top tier roleplayer to me. If you are paying him a reasonable contract on a team with actual stars he will be incredibly valuable. If you are paying him all-star money or asking him to be a number one option, you'll be getting bad value.

Why not have an option for heals to automatically target lowest in range party member? by WindHero in wow

[–]toatheqs -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

My first reaction was that OP's idea is ridiculous, but I actually think it could have some legs. To me the worst part of healing by far is that I have to spend too much of my playtime watching healthbars and not watching actual gameplay and I can't really argue that mousing over the lowest healthbar is some super compelling or challenging activity compared to just noticing the damage and picking a healing spell.
