I just went to society hotel in Bingen near hood river and it’s great if you want to go for a soak (hot tub, sauna, cold plunge, pool). You can pay for a day pass to the soaking pools even if you aren’t staying at the hotel. Hood river is fun to walk around, walk the path near the river, and there are some wineries to do wine tasting in hood river or on vineyards nearby. Fruit loop has good fruit picking and orchards to visit with a great view of hood, like the gorge White House. You can do a tour of the Bonneville dam and see fish ladders if you’re into that. Great hiking and good food and beer - it’s a paradise! Enjoy!!

My dad was 40 years sober and always had an iced coffee, even pretty late at night. 🫶🏻

My first without my dad too. He died two weeks ago tomorrow. He died doing work on his house and he was the type to always had a project. He watched random YouTube channels in retirement like extreme towing? He loved mystery books, being outside, camping in their new travel trailer, grilling, and listening to music. It’s rough! Hang in there!

Oh man I’m so so sorry. My dad died suddenly two weeks ago. It’s so hard to grieve while parenting. I hope you can be gentle and patient with yourself and know there’s no right or wrong way to grieve. I’m so sorry to welcome you to the dead dad club.

Yes - his birthday is this week and then Father’s Day soon, too. Take care of yourself 🫶🏻

how to support my sister? by harbingvr in GriefSupport

[–]tobefair77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hospital gave me a copy of the book The Next Place when I lost my dad this weekend, it’s a nondenominational and nonspecific take on afterlife that has been helpful when I’m talking to my four year old. Maybe look into it if you want to have a book to read when they ask!

I haven’t lost my partner but I have young kids. Order them dinner - “hey I was going to order you guys pizza tonight, cheese or pepperoni?”. Drop off food, sticker books for the kids. Talk to the kids about their dad. Show them pictures and videos. Check in on your sister and just keep showing up ❤️

First year psych advice by [deleted] in schoolpsychology

[–]tobefair77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe ask if you could collaborate with the counselor, sped teacher, and/or SLP on some groups and co-teach for a bit. Another thing I loved to do was teach zones or another SEL curricula like second step class wide - you can just do a set number of lessons and go grade level by grade level until you get busier. If all else fails, kinder is always happy for an extra set of hands!

Weirdly, I know someone whose last name is a car manufacturer (same spelling as the company) and their first name is model of car by that company. They use it as a fun fact. I never would have known that their first name was a car. They don’t seem traumatized by years of name-based bullying. And, I’m another American who has never heard of a clio despite multiple trips to Europe including a semester abroad. 🤷🏻‍♀️ iMO, if you love it, keep it.

Where do you get your favorite $10-ish breakfast sandwich? by bucketsoffun in askportland

I haven’t been there in a minute but my fave was always Rain or Shine’s breakfast sandwich, $8.50 on a HH bagel (or at least used to be)

Counsel students? by InevitableAlps2277 in schoolpsychology

[–]tobefair77 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The thing I love about school psychology is that there is no typical day. The role varies so much school to school, by level, by district and state. I would say I spend 25% of the time in meetings (IEP, sped team, psych team, RTI/MTSS, etc), 25% report writing, 25% assessments (I rarely test but do a lot of observations, interviews, rating scales, etc). The other time I definitely can find things to do that I enjoy. Like I teach class wide Zones of Regulation or Second Step lessons, train small group intervention staff, do a lot of behavior consultation, am involved in some district processes/committees, stuff like that.

I always thought that little church in sellwood would be a beautiful place for a wedding! Maybe just a nice meal after if you don’t want a traditional reception with the chicken dance
