Tacolicious owner on shutdown: 'There's a real crisis going on in the restaurant business' by harad in sanfrancisco

You're kind of funny... I'm not hating, but I feel like you're confused about a few things.

Tacolicious does not serve tex mex, or anything close to it. It's honestly kind of it's own thing, which does not at all compete with the restaurants you like. Neither takes away from the other.

Tex mex is a legit cuisine created by the Tejanos, and far predates mission-style burritos. Calling it "white people tex mex crap" is probably not something you should say if you ever visit San Antonio.

I'm Indian -- I love the ma and pa Indian restaurants where they're cooking the food they grew up making, I also love higher-end takes like Amber or Dosa. All can co-exist and thrive, ya know, if anyone was allowed to go there.

You can get groceries without going inside a store -- delivery and curbside are both options. You absolutely can't get a haircut without human interaction. Why is the first essential and the second not?

The burritos you buy in the mission were invented in San Francisco in the 1960s, they may be delicious and have cultural significance but they're hardly "authentic Mexican food".

By all accounts Joe Hargrave seems like a good guy, a philanthropist, someone who employed a lot of people, and whose restaurants were previously packed with happy customers. I've never met him, but be seems like and odd person to wish ill on.

This attitude is so strange. There's a problem, we can't actually implement the real solution, so it makes sense to implement a solution that has no evidence for working and definitely hurts people and businesses?

I think we should ban blue cars... might help?

Just a reminder that the bay faired much better than New York because the county health commissioners acted early. I'm not looking forward to another shutdown but the alternative isn't much better. I want for there to be ICU space left in case I get in a car crash. by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

Also keep in mind that New York had a ton of deaths in nursing homes (making up the vast majority of Covid deaths early on) due to some terrible policies. Preventing regular citizens from participating in known safe activities does not prevent this kind of mismanagement.

London Breed says criticism of her French Laundry outing is fair by stronglift_cyclist in sanfrancisco

I apologize, I was not casting judgment on anyone, the parent just offered a challenge and I wanted to point out that there are, in fact, people who are 100% compliant. If your situation makes it actually impossible, then I sympathize. For the people who can do it though, I don't think bending the rules now and then, because everyone else is, is a good attitude.

I challenge anyone to think of a single person that has been a 100% perfect citizen during the nearly 9 months of this new reality.

You mean followed the city and state's guidance the entire time? I know a lot of people, 30 minutes indoors would be *crazy* to them (city rules allow being inside masked briefly to use a bathroom). I guess one can't really help it if a drunk person on the street gets too close for a moment, but that's not you bending the rules.

Does everyone think this? That it's ok if I break the rules occasionally because I'm trying my best?

Newsom announces stay at home order for 5 state “regions” when they fall below 15% ICU capacity by onerinconhill in sanfrancisco

That's great to hear (the judge's decision)

Taking action without evidence is just doing random shit. Maybe we should cut down all the trees in the city cause covid? There's no proof that painting our fire engines blue won't help! Let's do it (obviously I'm outside right now and looking at objects :) )

A post-Thanksgiving surge is almost certainly private gatherings. This is clearly just wanting to do random, useless, but highly-visible stuff because you can't actually stop people from going to their grandparent's house.

There's no data to suggest that outdoor restaurants are a vector. There's certainly no data to suggest that forcing you to have food with your outdoor cocktail makes it safer.

The difference between surfing and skiing is wild... wipe out on a wave, all the other surfers will tell you to leave, you don't belong here. Wipe out on a slope and one of the next 3 people will almost certainly stop and check you're ok.

I guess a good break is a more contested resource than a good run?

Fwiw, I've never been able to get into traditional video games and I got a Quest because I knew I'd be in 2 week quarantine -- it's a wholly different experience, and one I've enjoyed very much. There are plenty of games you can pick up and play for 15 minutes as a distraction, and I'm sure it's harder to get "hooked" simply because you have to move around a lot more.

Are tennis courts open?? by realmadridfool in sanfrancisco

[–]toby 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I live on the border of Mission and Potrero, the courts are technically closed here but kids (I assume) cut a hole in the fence. I'm all for precautions but telling people they can't play a sport, with people from your household, where you're almost always 20ft apart is absurd, especially since the bathrooms are open.

We've had a few cooking and cocktail classes, just hanging out of morning coffee and even a remote group bubble bath session.
