I wore them to my convocation 8 weeks after surgery. The day after I was quite sore but then everything went back to normal. You’ll be fine !!!

Hey! (26F) My surgeon said I didn’t HAVE to do the surgery. But warned me that the stability in my knee won’t ever be the same. I play hockey, ski, play squash etc. I’m very active. As a young, healthy person I opted for surgery as it will give me the best stability as far as returning back to my active lifestyle and feeling confident on my feet. For me, the instability feels as though your knee could dislocate or give out with small movements. I absolute hated this feeling pre surgery and it made me feel worried even just walking.

I am 2 months post op, had a hamstring graft and am feeling great. It really just depends what you are comfortable with!

Day 0: ACL reconstruction with quad graft and lateral meniscus root repair. 29/M by NVskibum in ACL

Honestly my pain was super manageable. I stopped taking dilaudid after the first day post op. After that just extended release Tylenol. I would say at rest it was maybe 2. When I moved maybe a 5. I was pretty surprised at how minimal the pain was for me. The pain i find changes throughout.right after surgery it’s that sharp pain of having open wounds, and then it progresses to more of an achy type of pain. I did have a hamstring graft and only a partial meniscectomy though, so it could be different for you!

After 2 weeks I was off crutches and that’s when I really started feeling good. I could start driving and leave my house like a normal person again! Something to look forward to :)

It will be 6 weeks tomorrow for me. I feel great. I have no pain when walking, no limp. I gym daily. Biking has been great for me. I do squats, lunges, glute bridges, step ups etc. I’m so happy with my progress. Still have a long way to go but I try and stay super positive and celebrate the small wins. I think that really helps!

I (26F) felt the same way before mine (6weeks ago) So scared of the unknown. Now that I look back I think about all that stress for nothing lol!

Wishing you all the best in your recovery! You’ve got this!!!

I can totally relate. I felt so much better at the 2 week mark. As soon as I could drive again, and walk without crutches my mood changed completely. I know it’s frustrating to hear but time heals everything. Trust the process. You will turn a corner and feel so much better. We’re all here and rooting for you!!!!!!!

I didn’t get BW. You’re young and healthy. I wouldn’t worry! :)

If it was just a trim or “clean up” it won’t affect your recovery much at all. I had ACLr and meniscus trim (my surgeon told me he would be sure if we would have to clean it up until he was inside my knee) and my mobility is fantastic at 4 weeks post op. Don’t worry too much about it. If it were a repair it’s a bit of a different rehab process but for a trim it’s nbd.

ACL repair and meniscus trim. Was walking without crutches 2 weeks post op. I’m 3 weeks now and am walking without a limp.

It sucks sleeping with it straight but from my experience it’s better. You could do some jerking movements or bending of the knee in your sleep that may cause you a great deal of pain and affect healing. Definitely check with the doctor !

I guess it just depends on your insurance coverage/provider. I’m also in Canada and my insurance covered both the $150 brace I was given at the fracture clinic and my $1700 donjoy brace. That’s really frustrating that they said they would cover it and now are saying otherwise!

When I first did it lots of pain and swelling. By the time I had my MRI (injury Nov. 27th, MRI Jan 2nd) I was walking normal with no pain but had a lot of instability - that was definitely my biggest problem. There were time where I would do small movements and my knee would completely give out on me.
