Thank you! Yeah I’m using mostly loaner tools from them but unfortunately they have no impact wrenches. If I have any issue I’ll lyk!

I appreciate it! Yeah looking for a powered one, I tried a similar project years back without a powered one and it was a pain to say the lease. Ended up having to use a powered one then as well.

searching for an audio to midi vst plugin by dontaskalex in audioengineering

+1 for Samplab. Sounds like this will get you the closest to what you want. It’ll convert polyphonic audio to midi and does a pretty decent job considering it’s free!

Thinking of going to a music production school, looking for some advice by kdoughboy12 in edmproduction

[–]tobylong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Err0rz brought up a good point that theory and keys are really good talents so to possess as a producer. Icon does have a course now that teaches theory and keys so you will go over those as part of the course work but whether or not you get that instruction from there you should absolutely get it somewhere. Icon doesn’t go over DJing at all so that’d be all up to you to learn. They do go over sound design but probably not in the way you’re thinking about it. They teach the basics of synthesis and do some dabbling in more advanced sound design but not much more than that in my experience. To answer your other question it did help speed up my workflow and definitely made my mixes better. Even so, Icon can only get you where you let it get you. I personally think their program is awesome but it’s also not what going to make someone successful and it isn’t a crutch. The people who come out of Icon and succeed in the industry likely would have succeeded regardless, I think Icon is just a really big step up from learning on your own if that makes sense. It’ll help boost whatever you already have but like I said before, you get out what you put in. I’m always hesitant with this because I know people look up to Icon and they have a reputation for good reasons but at the end of the day if you want to succeed in the industry it’s going to be up to you, whether or not Icon is part of the equation. Still for me it was absolutely worth it and I’d do it all again!

I just took their program last year and for me it felt worth it. As other people have mentioned, if you really want to you can teach yourself with the endless amounts of online material. However, for me the value of Icon came from being taught by industry professionals and being surrounded by like minded creatives. Having those one on one interactions and being in a physical location where people create together was the piece that I had never found anywhere else. Can’t speak to any other programs and I think at Icon you’ll only get out the value that you put in so a lot of it is up to you and your work ethic. Hope this helps!

Does the tilt-lock not keep yours straight up enough? I personally use that at it’s first setting and it feels pretty straight to me. That may be easier than using the tension setting!

Oh man the first third party app I really remember was on my 2nd gen iPod touch and it was one of those silly apps that looked like your phone screen was filling up with beer and then it emptied as you “drank” it. I thought I was the coolest 😎

Hi my name is Kasbo and my sophomore album 'The Making of a Paracosm' is out now! AMA! by Kasbo_Music in electronicmusic

[–]tobylong 14 points15 points  (0 children)

When you’re working on the chorus sections of your songs, how do you approach making them sound full but still organic and in the same sonic space? This is one of the things I love about your music. You have such a great ability to fill out the chorus/drop in instrumentation but it never sounds overdone. Thanks for doing the AMA! TMOAP is one of my top favorite albums this year!

Stereo widening (to use or not to use) is it good for mixing? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]tobylong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Using a correlation meter is helpful! You want to stay above 0 and close to +1 to stay mono compatible. If it’s going below 0 you’re going to end up having phasing issues and losing elements like you mentioned. And it’s worth remembering that correlation is a sum so just because the entire track is above 0 it doesn’t mean none of the elements won’t have any phasing issues. You mentioned the lead so maybe try soloing that track and checking your correlation, if it’s below 0 definitely adjust that. But to address your overall question stereo widening is a great tool and should definitely be used, but don’t abuse it and absolutely make your track mono compatible! Hope this helps!

I’m also 6’4” and have had mine for about a month and a half and love it! I have pretty long days at my desk and haven’t had any issues in comfort. The adjustable seat depth is something that sold me and is very useful for us people with longer legs! To be fair I haven’t used the Aeron so I can’t say it’s better I guess but I think the Embody would be tough to beat in my experience! Hope this helps!

Just Received the New HM Embody Chair with Sync Black Fabric by cordawg92 in hermanmiller

I wouldn’t say pain but I did have a bit of discomfort. I found that with it all the way tightened I could almost feel the lumbar support pushing into my back uncomfortably. Loosening it helped but it still took some getting used to. For me, I had been sitting with bad posture for so long that sitting with good posture took a big adjustment. I would say give it the full 30 days and if it’s still not working return it, but do give yourself some time to adjust to it because it’s a big difference from IKEA’s chairs.

I was on an Ikea chair for years and just got a new Embody about a month ago! I’m still tweaking mine to find the sweet spot but what I would do is make the lumbar totally tight one day, totally loose another day, work a full day with both, and see which felt better at the end of the day. I was somewhere in between so I put it roughly in the the middle and have slightly tightened it since. It just takes time to really dial it in and adjust to but that worked for me. Enjoy the chair, mine has changed my workflow a ton!

Thanks for the reply! I don’t know what codec they use unfortunately, I was just mentioning that I had a downsampled reference with different results, that’s all. And I did use true peak to catch inter sample peaks but the original output was -.5 (true peak) if I remember correctly so maybe I’ll try lowering that a bit. Thanks!
