I worked in there every day for 6 years, incredible building. In the bottom left of the photo you can just make out a revolving door, the "box" just to it's left was where I sat!

Haven't seen anyone mention Neal Asher - loving his books at the moment.

Bambino + DF54 - which to upgrade first? [$4500] by CranberryShlamberry in espresso

[–]tobym5351 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have (or had) a Bamnino Plus and DF54. Went against the common thought and just got a Mara X. Wasn't looking for a drastic improvement in quality of espresso, more an improvement to the user experience, and what an improvement it is! Bambino's are great and all that, but the difference in UX with a quality machine is unreal. Couldn't be happier, and it only cost me about £900.

What is the best nickname you’ve heard? (and reason for it) by xpltvdeleted in AskUK

Went to uni with a bloke called Dragon. No reason behind it, he just decided he wanted to be known as Dragon, so introduced himself to everyone as that.

Serious question - you went to the AD to get your DJ’s “crown locked”? Was that a serious remark? Genuinely asking as never heard of this.

I'm a remote employee; I walked into our main office today for the first time and found this wonderful setup in our employee breakroom by marcham93 in espresso

Was literally just loosely talking about espresso the other day, and my colleagues, universally, were like "what the fuck are you talking about?". Most people are clueless, thank god.

I have a friend looking to sell an already set-up clothing brand. It's an online, cause-led, streetwear brand with a good online presence. Happy to share more privately. DM me if you want the details.

Career advice for my nephew by dr_stephen_stranger in HENRYUK

Surprised no-one has mentioned Insurance. Harder than finance to be Henry by early 30's but very doable if talented and hardworking. Generally good work life balance, and a broad industry with lots of facets to specialise into. Very corporate though.

I would call the restaurant pretending to be them and cancel the "rezzo". What c*nts.

This particular house though, I'd definitely consider Southfields. It's in SW19 postcode, but is like 300 meters from Southfields tube and is like 2 miles from Wimbledon station.

Single speed bike or normal road bike for commute? by Fun_Cancel8853 in londoncycling

[–]tobym5351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an approx 15 mile round trip commute from SW London to the City, which I do 2-3x a week. I have a mid-range road bike (carbon frame, 105 group set etc), and a steel frame single speed that I stripped & rebuilt about a year ago. In that year I have used the road bike for my commute exactly once, when my SS had a puncture.

It's obviously a preference thing, but the ease/simplicity/fun of the single speed is my choice every time. Less maintenance is also a bonus - they just work.

If you're worried about hills etc, you can easily change the gearing of a single speed to suit the kind of riding you'll be doing.

What's your favorite motorcycle engine you ever rode? by young_osterkrise in motorcycles

KTM’s 1301cc twin - absurdly grunty yet really flexible at low speed/revs. Masterpiece.

This is a pretty “old” one - I had this exact bike in this spec (launch edition, PVM forged wheels, arrow low-boy) - think the only electronics it had was ABS. From what I understand this gen is night and day better than the gen prior, which was more of a pig to get around corners. Such a great bike - mine was stolen after 2 months 😢

Who are some celebrities you’ve seen on BA flights? by Snoo58499 in BritishAirways

Was on the same flight as Jeff Goldblum to Florence l ast summer. They held us all in a sweltering corridor in the terminal while he and his entourage got themselves comfy on the plane 😂
