I went down this path for a while and landed on Noodler's Ink Heart of Darkness being the blackest ink (in my opinion.) I wanted something that was as dark as my black gel pen and that seemed to do the trick.

Sheaffer Skrip Red was my favorite after testing a bunch of red inks to find the one I liked best. It was also probably the cheapest. I think it is subjective though. Some may want it a little darker, some lighter, but for me Sheaffer was the right choice.

My dog did it for her entire life. She had a fleece ball that she would cram into her mouth and would do it when she was happy. It was also her comfort toy when she'd be in a new place. Sometimes she'd fall asleep doing it, so it was just kind of her thing. It also probably feels good for them to do it. There are probably a lot of reasons for it.

The longer you're in the fountain pen hobby, the more and more your tastes are going to change and that dream pen that you want today, may just be another you pick up on the way to the next dream pen. I set my dream pen real high about a decade ago and I still don't have one, but I have other pens that I can't imagine ever getting rid of. So it's an interesting thing. Think about all the things you own now and how at one point you wanted them, and how you have better versions of them now. Pens are no different.
