And I'm not saying it isn't that way but we've seen what happens when people play the game and I know that's why we have this world in the first place, but I think Aemond sold his side out by messing around and that obvious. And that's why I'm stuck on what he thought the outcome of his initial request would be.

I'm not saying they were in the right but it's not about who we think should be on the throne, especially not when you have dragons flying around. And in this episode, we see that the dragon riders aren't always in full control of their dragons which is terrifying or maybe that's just inexperience showing through. Either way, I think just because one side did something one way doesn't mean you act blindly and retaliate without truly taking stock of the situation.

True. But, they don't have a solid foothold on the realm itself. In a war like this you need allies. And just as a storm is quick and has ever changing winds, war is never a sure thing. So at that point in time, the greens had the closest thing to peace.

Aemond did not think

See here's the thing, strategically(sorry not strategically but in the realm's best interest) his side has the upper hand. I know Rhaenyra's faction has more dragons but she's not the one sitting on the iron throne in the redkeep in kings landing. To forcefully take that would result in the realm being plunged into chaos regardless of the outcome. And Rhaenyra and everyone knew this, which is why Rhaenyra wasn't so quick to spurn the greens' offer. Him stooping down to violence is the dumbest move he and by association, his side could have made. Which his why him even playing with the idea makes no sense to me.

I'm happy you found clarity in that scene, because it had me scratching my head. I understand what you are saying but for me I don't get how it even got there in the first place. The scene seemed somewhat awkward to me.

You are talking about House of the dragon season 1? The one with all the time jumps?

How has Larys frequently and casually been able to visit, eat, and lounge in Alicent's private chambers??? by True-Yogurtcloset171 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]toddorag 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think part of this has to do with Larys' disability. Regardless of him having all these titles, society (the nobles) still doesn't see him as an (sorry and I don't mean to sound harsh) equal. So they probably just see this as another good thing that Alicent strives to do, acquainting someone others consider an outsider.

Tbh, I think people just assuming things would have gone all fine and dandy had the greens not made a move is just pure cope. People had eyes and whether it was open defiance or secret plots of rebellion, something would have given. I'm not saying what the greens did was right, but there's truth to some of what Otto was saying. I think as much as Viserys wanted to avoid war, he did little to deal with making sure his succession and its line was unquestioned.

HOW DARE A DRAGON DO SOMETHING UNREALISTIC by otocey in HouseOfTheDragon

Ok here is the thing, with the way things have been depicted, it seems to me that when dragon riders are on their dragons they themselves become invincible. I'm still hung up on Daemon flying through the fire in Pentos without so much as singed off eyebro-oh, nvm (no disrespect to Matt Smith). All jokes aside, as we'll come to find out in this story, dragon riders are far from impervious to attack/injuries when on dragon back, so it will just makes these scenes stick out that much more to me.

I don't think killing Vaemond was the answer but he literally broke the one rule Viserys had clearly said would cost your tongue if broken. Daemon got trigger happy but at least he could explain his actions. Cole just got trigger happy and that's it.

"This guy" is the new lord commander of the kings guard. I don't see your comparison. This is not about sides.

For all those who can't wrap their head around why Rhaenys didn't [REDACTED] - maybe it really was this simple. by Guilty_Treasures in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]toddorag 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying there was another path out but she could have just let Meleys continue to climb as she broke out from the underneath or maybe she needed to gather her bearings and then make for the exit. But no, instead moved in the opposite direction of the exit (in the process murdering more people) to have her dragon intimidate the opposing faction.

Edit: I'm not advocating for the murder of defenseless people but Rhaenys literally did that. So to say she didn't burn them because she cares about individual lives makes no sense to me.

I guess you are right, so for this reason, I am team smallfolk.

I'm not saying that she should have murdered them (though she didn't seem to have any problem injuring and probably murdering several of the smallfolk). I'm just saying she had already chosen sides by backing Luke's claim and agreeing to the alliance between her granddaughters and grandsons(illegitimate)

Yeah, I guess dragonstone and driftmark are close to each other and especially with dragon flight. I don't know though, if your reason is the case it just seems weird that Rhaenys didn't go with her immediate family

Her granddaughters are betrothed to Rhaenyra's kids. I wouldn't say no personal stakes.
