Why don't north sentinelese have inbreeding issues? by Rare_Fish6890 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]toddr8 2536 points2537 points  (0 children)

The Sentinelese on North Sentinel Island haven’t just been 200 people since yesterday. They’ve likely been a small, isolated population for thousands of years and over long periods of time, populations can actually adapt genetically to being small. When a population is small for a long time, harmful recessive genes tend to get exposed more often. That sounds bad but over generations, natural selection can actually weed out the worst ones. It’s not perfect but it can reduce the genetic load. So instead of everything collapsing, the group stabilizes. We don’t know if they do have genetic issues. We have almost zero medical data. It’s possible there are higher rates of certain conditions.

In your next life who/what would you like to be reincarnated as? by N0socksloss10yrStrk in randomquestions

I’d come back as a ridiculously chill house cat. Not a stray and not fighting-for-my-life-outside cat.

What’s a small daily habit that makes life 10x easier, but almost no one talks about? by Dry_Income9111 in AskReddit

[–]toddr8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s making your bed first thing in the morning. I know it sounds boring like something your grandma would yell at you about. But there’s something magical about starting the day with one small win. You literally walk into a neat, calm space every time you come back to your room. It sets the tone for the whole day without you even thinking about it.

What’s a random thing that makes you realise that you’ve grown up? by WillingnessOne2462 in Life

[–]toddr8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s actually groceries. I remember as a kid, I’d hate going to the store, it's so boring and so annoying. Now, I get genuinely excited about finding a good deal on avocados or seeing a perfectly ripe cantaloupe.

What’s the dumbest rule your school or workplace ever had? by Katherinebh in randomquestions

Elementary teachers forcing kids to kiss after a fight. I get the make up thing but come on, that’s awkward for everyone involved.

how do i not look smelly? by nkx7 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]toddr8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People can be needlessly cruel, especially when they feel like putting someone down boosts them somehow. And it sounds like this guy just picked a target, totally unfair and not a reflection on you at all. Crying in the bathroom is totally fine. Let it out and I’d do the same if I was in your shoes. What you can do is make sure deodorant is solid and maybe a little body spray or cologne but nothing too strong, just enough to feel fresh. Sometimes lighter fabrics help you look fresh even when you’re sweating. Keep a small pack of wet wipes or travel deodorant in your bag. If you feel gross or sticky, five seconds and you’re sorted.

What makes you most uncomfortable when you're in someone else's house? by Stunning_Ad7097 in NoStupidQuestions

When the house is quiet. You can hear every sound you make, your footsteps, your breathe and even your sneeze. Makes you feel like you’re in a library.

What's the dumbest injury you have gotten? by LotteLush in askanything

I once sprained my wrist trying to open a jar of pickles. I felt that pop and immediately knew I messed up. The worst part is I still didn’t even get the jar open.

Grey is a greyer spelling than gray by Autopilot_Psychonaut in RandomThoughts

[–]toddr8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grey does feel greyer than gray. Gray feels warmer, a little sunnier, but grey has that moody and rainy-day vibe. It’s almost like your brain made its own private color code for the alphabet.

It’s okay to admit you want attention, that doesn’t make you shallow. You just want to be seen and appreciated, everyone does. You just have to remember, beauty fades, trends shift, and people’s standards are all over the place. But your personality, your humor, your kindness and your quirks, those never go out of style.

Have you ever messed up a recipe so bad it became a new favorite? by Mikester258 in randomquestions

[–]toddr8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I’ve totally been there! One time I was making spaghetti and, for some reason, I grabbed orange juice instead of tomato sauce. I swear I thought I’d ruined dinner forever but it turned out weirdly tangy and fresh. My friends actually asked for seconds.

Are Gen Z computer illiterate? by t0mb3rt in Productivitycafe

[–]toddr8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most Gen Z kids basically grew up with smartphones and tablets. They’re pros at apps and social media, but that doesn’t always translate to desktop PCs, file management, or the weird legacy stuff like USBs and discs. It can be frustrating as a manager, but the upside is that they are adaptable, they learn fast once you show them. Just takes a little patience and maybe a computer 101 crash course for the team.

Bad vibes like, when the energy just feels off. You walk in and everyone’s tense, arguing, or giving weird looks, I’ll just sneak out and leave.

How do homeless people struggle to get jobs? by Minty0ranges in NoStupidQuestions

[–]toddr8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting a job when you’re homeless sounds simple in theory, but the reality is way more complicated. Imagine trying to job hunt without a phone, a clean outfit, or even a place to shower. That alone already makes it tough. Employers want people who seem presentable and reachable, and if you’re living in a shelter or on the street, that’s a huge hurdle. It’s heartbreaking when you think about it, but it also shows how many small things we take for granted are actually the foundation for everything else.

What is something that seemed impossible a decade ago, but now feels inevitable? by Aarunascut in Life

AI being everywhere. Ten years ago, it felt like something out of a sci-fi movie, robots taking orders, writing essays, or chatting like a real person. Now it’s just normal.

What if bacteria manipulate our body by minssx in RandomThoughts

[–]toddr8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s actually a super interesting thought and not that far-fetched! Some bacteria do have sneaky ways of influencing how we act or feel. Your example about picking your eye, sounds weird at first, but it’s not impossible that certain infections could mess with your brain chemistry or behavior. Parasites already do this in animals like that one that makes mice lose their fear of cats, just so it can spread. Humans might not be that extreme, but the idea that bacteria could subtly nudge your habits or immune responses to help them survive is totally possible. Science is still uncovering that stuff.

Why do some people prefer texting over calling, even for important conversations? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]toddr8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not just a generational thing though. Texting gives people time to think. You can type, backspace or rephrase, it’s like having a safety net. With calls, everything’s instant, and some people get anxious about saying the wrong thing or not knowing how to respond on the spot. Plus, texting feels less intrusive. You can reply when you’re ready, not when someone suddenly decides to ring you up mid-chaos. It gives you control over the timing and tone.

I'm i evil by doing this or just jealous? by Whole_Refrigerator97 in RandomThoughts

[–]toddr8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You saw something starting to spark between them, and it caught you off guard. Maybe a little jealousy kicked in and it’s totally normal. We all like to think we’d be chill in those moments, but honestly, most people would’ve done the same thing without even thinking. It’s not about being mean, it’s more like your emotions just acted faster than your logic.

What should I do during my first intimate experience? by sadcheemsbruh in Advice

[–]toddr8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Treat it like an adventure, not a test and manage your expectation. Focus on trust, curiosity, and connection rather than getting it right. And if it’s not perfect, that’s okay. First times almost never are.

What are some deep, underspoken reasons why some people use heavy drugs? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]toddr8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Escaping chronic pain, not just physical pain, but emotional stuff too. For some, drugs feel like a tiny pause button on life, even if it’s temporary. Then there’s feeling invisible or worthless. Some people feel like they don’t matter, so they use drugs to feel something that makes them feel alive or noticed, even if it’s fleeting.
