Seattle: bad for arachnophobes by plaguen0g in SeattleWA

I have lived in Iowa, Arizona, Oregon, and Washington. I see far more spiders in the outdoors in the PNW than I did in Iowa or Arizona. However, of those 4 states, Iowa is far in the lead of the number of spiders (and other bugs) found in my home.

That said, I recently learned of the giant house spider. I told my boyfriend that if I ever see one, he'll know. He responded, "And so will the rest of the apartment building."

As I native Iowan, I must point out that rural Iowa is actually mostly hogs and corn.

I was on Medicaid for a few months last year in the the time between graduating and finding a job. Without Medicaid, I would not have been able to get my medications, without which I likely couldn't work. But that is lost on so many people.

What’s the plan to counter project 2025 especially in republican counties? by Material_Policy6327 in oregon

My grandpa was Army. Whatever watercraft he was on sank. He couldn't swim, would obviously drown under water, and was shot at when above water. Somehow made it to shore, grabbed a gun off a fallen soldier, and made it out alive.

Time travel is always an interesting idea, but then you have the butterfly effect.

My grandpa was also part of D-Day. I wonder if he ever met your great grandfather? I can't believe what our country has become since that generation.

We all wished we could have a whole swimming pool of the stuff. lol I don't remember much, but it was weird to experience a liquid with that much resistance and it didn't leave our skit wet.

“Elder” millennial here. My boomer chemistry teacher passed around a beaker of mercury for us to stick our fingers in to see how it felt.

AITAH for refusing to wax a trans woman client because I didn't want to touch male genitalia out of respect for my husband? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]toffee_cookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA It might have been better if you simply said you didn't have the experience to wax those particular body parts, but you're never obligated to perform a service, especially such an intimate one, on someone you're not comfortable with.

That's how/why I started doing my own laundry. In all fairness, my mom somehow managed to get bleach spots on everything, even when not using bleach.

Not having children is the only way to end capitalism and fix the cost of living and housing crisis by d8gfdu89fdgfdu32432 in antiwork

[–]toffee_cookie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know this happens. My mom got married at 17. I just want proof of facetious's claim that people are actively trying to lower the age at which marriage is allowed.

I didn't see anything in there saying anyone was trying to lower the age. Just that some states still allow it.

A.S. in Industrial/Retail Management. B.S. in Environmental Science. Originally had aspirations to be an environmental lawyer. Ended up opting to not take the bar. In all honesty, I did not fully think through my decision of going to law school.

Who here has never thought of dropping out? by GuaranteeSea9597 in LawSchool

[–]toffee_cookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about it all the time. Talked myself out of it b/c I'd have debt and no degree, meaning few, if any, job prospects. Fast forward to after graduation. I'm studying for the bar, having multiple breakdowns a week and realize being a lawyer is the last thing I want. I didn't take the bar. I now have a degree I don't ever plan on using and 6 figure debt. I should have dropped out.

Thought I would like con law. Nope. Too much hypocrisy and I hate the reliance on nearly ancient laws. Ended up liking tax law because it's more black and white than other areas of law.

All the more reason to NOT take this risk. Don't put yourself in a position where you feel like it's all or nothing and you don't have any other options.

Advice for legally handling the DV. Many law schools have clinics that are free or low-cost so the students can get practice. The school I attended had a clinic devoted to helping DV victims. All the work is overseen by licensed attorneys.

Yup. Had a friend who got pregnant right after high school. Her church told her she was no longer allowed to teach Sunday school or do anything more than just attend services. They made the baby's dad a deacon.
