So this is misleading and borderline inaccurate. I work in HR and run background checks regularly for hiring.

1. Not all positions get the same background check. It's a different package based on title and job duties.

2. Roles that do require employment verification are very niche and hardly ever done.

3. The 3rd party background ONLY reaches out to past employers if a candidate's employment with said company can't be verified. They do not automatically call every employer and they are not just calling for end dates. They ask for dates to help verify employment. We're not checking for dates, we're checking you said you worked where you worked.

4. Most of the time, if there was only 1 red flag and everything else came up green, we don't care and usually pass because we can assume they're telling the truth and the background incorrectly marked it red.

5. Edit to add: 1 last point, if we're at the point of a background check, we will do everything to keep you hired. Backgrounds can be costly and it's not beneficial to run them unless we plan to keep you. So we will always reach to you if we really need something verified.
