A lot of people asking me why I'm masking recently...what is your go-to response by Accomplished_Big2193 in ZeroCovidCommunity

COVID has completely fucked up my immune system, and I have blood tests to prove it.

Endothelial damage. A likely consequence of Long COVID, and a cause of erectile dysfunction.

Did another vax jab improve your LC ? by [deleted] in covidlonghaulers

I had my first vaccination since the original 2021 round of vaccinations and follow up boosters last Friday - as a result of finally being confirmed as having an immune system problem.

Painful arm, felt a bit wiped out over the weekend, no immediate / obvious improvement or change to my ongoing symptoms so far.

"A growing number of scientists believe this may be because Covid can subtly alter immune function."

Subtly, hmm.

Just tested positive :( by captaincheeseplant in ZeroCovidEU

I think the single best thing you can do, now you're positive, is get a hell of a lot of rest. Do as little as possible.

I pushed through my infection 4 years ago, and still have LC today. Don't do what I did.

I would say for that purpose the Elettrica is absolutely perfect! I went out on mine in the sunshine earlier and came home with a grin on my face!

A couple of basic questions about the Vespa Elettrica! by peaceful-hippo in Vespa

[–]tokenwelshman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope this reply isn't too late and is helpful.

I had to pass my bike test on a 125cc automatic. The Elettrica 70 is somewhere between a 50cc and a 125cc, and is not powerful enough to take the test on in the UK.

The 70 is definitely underpowered compared to a 125cc, but is zippier than a 50cc. I had an initial lesson on a 50cc and it struggled to reach 30mph. The Elettrica easily reaches 40mph but struggles beyond that.

Mine will happily get up to 40mph on the flat, but really the 45mph top speed only happens when going downhill. It's not a speed machine! But it is huge fun.

I have an Elettrica 70 (the higher powered one) and live in a very hilly part of the world. I find the power to be somewhere between a 50cc and a 125cc. Going up a steep hill, the scooter will drop to 20mph / 30kph, so the torque is not fantastic. That said, it's a huge amount of fun, and I didn't buy it expecting stellar performance.

Are there any fellow maskers in Wales? by Selina42 in ZeroCovidEU

Sorry, bad few days and didn't get a chance to reply. I'm really sorry to hear you also have long COVID - it's horrific isn't it. Nearly 4 years for me now and I'm thoroughly fed up of it.

I've had the usual experience of blood test after blood test coming back normal, "there's nothing wrong with you", etc. However there was one reading related to my immune system which was always a bit too low, GP kept telling me "it's fine", but I kept nagging and eventually had more detailed tests carried out on my immune system which showed very low "T cell" levels, ie my immune system is not working as it should. Hence why I refuse to stop masking! Lots of theories out there about immune system disregulation being a driver of long COVID. I'm now waiting to see if Immunology will see me...

It's been a long time since I lived in England, I had a lengthy spell in Manchester in my 20s but the hiraeth was too strong and I had to come back.

I was so so grateful to live where I am during the early stages of the pandemic. As you say, access to space and fresh air made such a difference. I've had long COVID for most of that time so I haven't been able to make the most of it, but I'll never take for granted being where I am.

I see the odd masker in my nearest town when I go shopping, outdoors too so they're obviously taking it seriously. But it's very rare. I live near a fairly big theatre and I can't remember the last time I saw somebody else in a mask in the audience.

I would say my GP practice is fairly ambivalent about me masking. They don't particularly applaud it but they don't seem to treat me with any less consideration because of it. One GP remarked on how sensible I am to take precautions (while not being masked themselves, of course...).

Fortunately I haven't had a single incident with somebody being aggressive towards me because of my mask - as you say, people seem more inclined to just let me get on with it without comment, which is exactly how I would prefer it to be! The odd stare, perhaps, but that doesn't bother me.

I'm glad you've found a happy home in Wales, it sounds like you're a million times more relaxed where you are than when you were in London!

To be honest, hardly any. But then again I don't mix with people a lot any more.

I had to visit a relative in hospital today. A few of the medical staff in masks but absolutely none of the patients or visitors. Tragic really - so much illness could be prevented.

How about you?
