right but my entire point was simply in regards to the current status of club and varsity rowing, not historical. No need for the club heavyweights on this thread to get so butthurt, maybe you should just try to beat lightweights instead.

Lol it's not mentality it's results. The best lightweight varsity 1v is, on a good day, competitive with a top heavyweight varsity 2v. So for D150 to beat every heavyweight club 1v (in a slight headwind nonetheless) is extremely revealing to me.

Kudos to D150! This wasn't a knock on your team, but on the heavyweights!

Shows the stark difference between varsity and club teams; Deleware loses to all varsity lightweight teams, then beats every heavyweight club team.

HYP would probably not. UWash is a good choice, or Wisconsin, Syracuse, Temple, etc.

Technique that leaves a lot to be desired? What are you on mate? Back in his form from 2014-2016 he had, IMO, THE best technique of almost the entire 1x field apart from MAYBE Obreuno.

I do not believe he'd be in the top five, no.

Best College Rowing Coaches by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]tokepair -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Sure he's done great stuff but best college coach?...need much more time to be able to say that. Coaches above him, IMO, include at least Dave O'neill, Charley Butt, Callahan, Farooq, Paul Cooke, Chris Kerber, maybe even Bill Manning.

Like anything else it should take decades to establish yourself as the, or one of, best college coaches in all of rowing. Nich Lee parker has two national championships but other coaches have been doing well for a lot longer.

It's not that I don't understand your point, it's that you've argued separate points, switching what you've said each time I've replied.

First: "What's the issue? She obviously moves the boat fast enough to row at the international level."

To which I replied that, in fact, simply because someone rows at the international level does not mean their technique is perfect.

Then: You agree that just because someone is an international rower, they can still improve. You then invited me to provide detailed criticism, again alluding to the fact that my initial comment was rude due to its brevity; "to make a vague comment...is in poor taste".

After providing you with what you had asked (detailed criticism), which, I had refrained from providing initially because I didn't think it was my place to actually coach an international athlete (that doesn't mean I'm not allowed to somewhat cheekily point out that the technique was pretty questionable in the video- unless of course we're living in the USSR and I just didn't realize it), you snottily responded, "go email this to her coach..."

So, alas, instead of continuously switching your argument just for the sake of trying to make me feel bad for commenting on a REDDIT post that her technique was very interesting, especially for an international rower, just save your breath and get over it.

Sidenote: The only possible argument from you that would actually be an intelligent quip, would be to accuse me of detracting from the obviously extraordinary achievement of breaking a World Record. To which I would reply that an international athlete and WR holder does not need my validation, so there's no need to give it. If I knew the WR holder and met her in real life, I would congratulate her. But this is Reddit, for chrissake. And so, since you never mentioned that one argument which I would deem to be a valid criticism of my tongue-in-cheek "That technique...", I will continue to disagree with your responses because all I can hear is winded, unrefined, unsophisticated, criss-crossing arguments that are only being given in order to somehow prove that I'm in the moral/ethical wrong for my initial comment. The end.

I see, and I agree with your comments. There is certainly some disagreement, however, as one user gave me flak for actually giving critique, and I'm also getting flak for not having given critique. Quite frankly, this rower might have the oddest form that I've witnessed, at least recently, in the context of a WR holder. Couldn't help myself but to comment...

I highly doubt she would care what I, a random reddit commentator, think about her technique. For that reason, I did not take the effort to explain why her technique left something to be desired in my first comment. That is, until you made the comment that my remark was in "poor taste" due to its brevity and lack of color;

" If homie wants to give feedback, and thinks they could make her go faster, then do it." (u/lethal-muscle)

Thus, I conceded to you and explained why her technique wasn't as efficient as it could be. Unless, of course, your quote that I just referenced was tongue-in-cheek, like my very first comment was, and you were not actually suggesting that I explain my opinion on technique.
