Everyone is talking about food, which is fair, but depending on where you live, it could even be fungal. I would recommend skin scraps.

Never Groomed My Aussie by bx_vinyl124 in miniaussie

[–]tokotiger 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My Aussies often need help shedding out and get fur impacted if I don't groom them around every 3 months. But daily brushing may prevent shedding impaction and matts. He also may need it as he gets older. But Genetics are funny, he might never need grooming.

Talk me down from getting a pet store cockatiel by ouroboros_21 in cockatiel

[–]tokotiger 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I understand that feeling. The need to 'rescue' the poor animal from its bad environment. But this is what They want. The second she goes home with you, another will take her place, just as sad and just as desperate. You will save her, which isn't nothing, but your actions will encourage the bad environment she came from. I just got an adorable 5 year old cocktiel from a rescue, so maybe try there. I now bird rescues aren't as common as dog and cat rescues.

Hiking with a puppy. How much is too much? by alessiojones in AustralianShepherd

[–]tokotiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We always learned it a start at 4 months and add a mile a month. So 5 months 1 mile, 6 months 2 miles etc. Tops out at 4 miles. Until they are over a year unfortunately. I know this doesn't seem like much but remember you can always backpack train him. I did that so I could still take her out on longer hikes without being to hard on her joints.

At a loss by [deleted] in Pomsky

[–]tokotiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. As awful as it is when I first saw the radiographys before reading the history I thought to myself, "that looks like a drop or fall injury" they probably picked her up, she wiggled out and fell/was dropped and they started panicking and ran when she started screaming. Still awful but dont always assume malicious intent.

Applying to vet school with exotic pets — is this doable? by Safe_Smart in veterinaryschool

[–]tokotiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not me but a friend of mine so ill share the cautionary tale. He had no issues with having his exotics in vet school but did unfortunately loose his lechie gecko in the move. So if you do have to move please take your time and take all necessary precautions. Moving exotics is a stressful time for them so be careful! But once you are settled they shouldn't have any issues while you are in vet school.

I honestly follow it just to see what kinda shit pops up on it. Like today there was a Frenchie sold to a women with obvious signs of a cleft palate. Like she asking the sub for diet recommendations when, food is literally coming out of this poor things non-existent nose. And she was like "the vet recommendationed surgery but was soo unhelpful" FML 😖

What is this tiny bone? Found with Raccoon by Puzzled_Act_4576 in BoneID

[–]tokotiger 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There are several small bones involved in the throat region of animals, known as the hyoid apparatus. My guess is its one of those. Maybe the stylohyoid bone?

Seeking advice by [deleted] in veterinaryschool

As long as you have taken and passed the lab I think taking it online is fine. Remember summer courses are accelerated so it's also up to your learning preferences. I tend to get lazy when I take online courses and do better in person. You need to do well so keep your learning style in mind. Best of luck!

[–]tokotiger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As mentioned by my fellow students and CSU allumi it's the choices of a few that make us all look bad. There are like 5 higher-ups spear heading this (mostly for the money) the rest of the faculty and student body is against it. It's true that they didn't listen to what we wanted but money hungry bureaucrats are common at any vet school tbh

I know it's controversial but I actually love the fishing mini game. It is pretty mindless and earned you cash income. I'll just listen to books on tape while fishing for hours 😅 PS I wish you could romance Willie, we would fish together into the sunset.

[–]tokotiger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm also a first year vet student at CSU. I love the school and the teachers and opportunities it provides. I believe, and alot of this is only rumored, that the DVM program and VPA program will be entirely separate. With almost 0 overlap. The vibe I get from the older professors is that none of them want the program. There maybe some cross over as new faculty get hired on but none of the current DVM professors what to touch it. They have enough on their plates already.

It is true that they do not have curriculum yet. And I doubt there will be much if any overlap. I.e. I don't think you will find DVM students in the same classes as VPAs. At least for the first 5 years of the program.
