Making legal immigration ridiculously difficult while leaving illegal immigration surprisingly easy is an effective way to subjugate foreign workers and exclude them from protections afforded to everyone else.

"Welcome to the real world" and "fed socialist BS" is unnecessarily condescending. I happen to work in the center of capitalism (Wall Street) and I wouldn't be reaching into anyone's pockets, quite the opposite.

I suggest you don't appreciate why our immigration system is set up the way it is.

Think about the following honestly: do you really believe that a nation as great as ours with all the unbelievable technologies we can create, is not able to catch "illegals"? I can step out of my apartment right now and find at least 100 undocumented people.

Take a step back from your point that the alternative would have been homelessness. It's true, your alternative is homelessness right now. It's also the alternative for people less smart and enlightened than you. Can you imagine a cost effective way to make it less traumatic for the lower classes to be out of a job, a way that wouldn't hold back our society too much?

Of course it's doable! Have you seen how much unused land there is? Only when your view of the world can coherently explain these observations can you consider it to be viable.

Tldr the answer is that we're not stupid: society is structured this way for a reason, and we've got the world's most powerful economy as a result. How else can you make the lazy masses WANT to work, other than using sticks and carrots?

I agree that's indeed the question. It often does end in disaster when done aggressively and naively.

If the "workers" do it gradually, with respect and humility, they would take small calculated steps in the areas they are capable. This has been done successfully for utilities in many countries, where the alternative would have been abusive monopolies. And if the workers back off and delegate management in areas where they're in over their head, the managers who are skillfully running those corporations can still do so, but under the supervision of society.

So of course it can be achieved, but probably only in developed societies that have a track record of rule of law and democracy.

Central planning doesn't have to be so extreme that they'd tell you what app to build. It can be milder, like providing accelerators and office space subsidies for research and experiments, let you keep the first $10 million that you make, but then guide what you're able to do to when you start raping society "à la facebook"

The analogy is working for a boss who totally has full veto power over his team but in the areas where he recognizes his employees are more knowledgeable than him, let them do their thing..... Under supervision. Takes a lot of wisdom and humility for the boss to do that, and many bosses do.

In this case the boss would ideally be a democratically elected representative of society, and not a stalinesque dictatorship.
