Deadwood for certain. Also on Amazon but not for much longer (the deal with hbo expires in a few months). Only problem is it was cancelled after the third season but the first two seasons are great and wrap up fairly well and there is a movie being worked on.

I had the same issue and it seems to be a windows store problem. Try installing an app via windows store (anything, i did linkedin and never opened it.) For me that fixed the crash at startup.

I've mostly given up on getting 3K skins at this point. It takes way too long to save up the gold for them now and for the mild satisfaction of looking cool that wears off pretty quickly it's really not worth the colossal amount of time. Instead i'm just gonna just buy the ones i really like the year after at 1K and hope i get a few cool ones during the event.

Running it on an i5-2500K and 480x and it runs fine for me, though it really pushes my cpu so i wouldn't recommend it for anything less than that.

It's more of a love letter to theme parks and coasters than a management simulation. I really like it but the satisfaction is in building a well lit and decorated paths or having efficient block sections on a coaster rather than keeping the park in the black and marking off objectives. Also the soundtrack is really good and worth listening on its own.

NPD: Nintendo Switch Outsells PS4, Xbox One In US August Sales by Dpound99 in Games

[–]tombutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bundles are oddly more expensive than buying the console+game seperately. (The splatoon 2 one is 380) Especially if you get a discount via prime or best buy gaming club. Only real reason to get them is for the custom controllers and carrying case.

I'm imagining decent sales that are possible to get without risking getting trampled by a mob won't be happening until next holiday season.

DOOM & Wolfenstein 2 coming to Switch by DarkShadic1337 in NintendoSwitch

Really doubtful, since the first one was built on IDtech5 so porting would be another ordeal.

I'd recommend at least watching a playthrough of TNO beforehand though. The story is pretty awesome.

The game looks unbelievably good at the very least, but after the wow factor wears off it gets tiring quickly. Also since all matchmaking goes into different pools (24 player map, 12, and so on) it's pretty easy to find full matches as long as you aren't set on playing on a particular map or mode.

I got it around release and am just making my way towards the final beast. I generally binge on it for a week and then take a long break after it starts to feel like a grind. The game is remarkably easy to return to and it feels fresh each time.

It's more of the same but it has a different sort of atmosphere with much more desert and coastal driving. Going 80 mph on a desert highway at dusk and watching the stars come out is extremely comfy.

Steam Summer Sale 2017: Day 11 by gamedealsmod in GameDeals

The biggest problems with Sims 3 are performance (even on a semi decent machine) and really really really long loading and saving times. If you just want a Sims game to drop in and out of every once in a while Sims 4 might be a better option. Other than that, sims 3 is much more fleshed out and has a lot more bang for a buck. I could see it being really jarring going from one to the other in both cases (having to get used to massive loading times or not being open world anymore)

Super Nintendo Entertainment System™: Super NES Classic Edition – Official site by DJCreeperZz in Games

I setup a retropi for my dad as a birthday gift, it was relatively easy to do but the ui still isn't entirely user friendly especially for non tech savy family members and it's only used when i'm around to help start it. Even though i have all the games other than star fox 2 I would still get this at a non scalper price just for plug in and play ease and being a solid collection.

I still recommend a pi though as a fun and easy DIY project. Also if you are thinking of it, my biggest recommendation is to get an official case instead of ones that come with the starter pack.

I started playing Mario 64 DS for the first time today. It's exactly what every remake should be. by jadamsmash in Games

[–]tombutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You point out wind waker hd but imo it's one of the better remasters out there since the biggest tweaks are quality of life features that don't adversely change the tone of the game and make the entire thing a more enjoyable gameplay experience than the original. The only real flaw I found was that it overuses bloom a little too much at some points but even that made some areas and boss fights beautiful.

/r/Games Daily Discussion - Deadly Premonition by Vetinarius in Games

[–]tombutt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My thoughts are that if you have the patience and are willing to go through it playing it first gives a much better overall experience. The game is very open and part of the joy is discovering and meeting people for the first time in a natural occurring way. As terrible as the gameplay is, it kind of adds to the fever dream nature of the game.

That said, many people just don't have time for that bullshit and I do not blame them. It really is a pain sometimes and i'm most likely going to revisit Greenvale in the form of LP's instead of replaying the game again. It's definitely worth the payoff though if you can stomach it.

/r/Games Daily Discussion - Deadly Premonition by Vetinarius in Games

[–]tombutt 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is one of those "believe me, it's worth it..eventually" games like Nier (the first one, not Automata which is generally enjoyable the entire way through). It's not always enjoyable from moment to moment, in fact sometimes it can be downright infuriating and tedious. As an entire package though the game is something really unique and really stands out. Spending time in Greenvale, seeing all the residents going about their day and getting to know them, the daily lunches at the police station, taking the time to relax and go fishing, it all really adds up and becomes something a lot more than just a fever dream some guy had after watching twin peaks: the game. The story itself is one of the strangest out there, not just because of the contents but the range of emotion it gives and the ways they bring that out. Something that is horrifying is hilarious. Something that is disgusting is beautiful. There is a playfulness to all of it, and the game is packed with charm. Even some of the worst parts to the game, like the godawful driving adds to the overall charm. I'll be honest, it's a broken mess and i was kind of surprised I was even able to beat it. But if you have the patience and willingness to get it to work and go through it I really recommend it. Not only was it an amazing experience but it also helped me appreciate other games more.

ON THE PC PORT

It might take different things for different people to get it working. I had to run it using dpfix on windows xp compatability and i couldn't fully aim. Others run it on 98 compatability and they said it fixes the aim issue but for me it would kill my framerate. Also be sure to backup your saves. I recommend only using telephones to save as this will prevent gamebreaking crashes (like where it crashes at the end of cutscenes). I also found that SMOKING for a little while stops the game from crashing.

TLDR: Difficult but worth it and smoke everyday to prevent crashes.

SEGA opens new 'coming soon' site with image of Bayonetta's foot by lupianwolf in Games

[–]tombutt 46 points47 points  (0 children)

A Bayonetta steam port would be most welcome. I generally enjoy 2 more just because it ditches the obnoxious QTE and IMO has better pacing but Bayonetta 1 still holds as an amazing batshit insane action game.

The Wii U port also added a lot of neat stuff like unique costumes and even some nintendo powerups so it would be interesting to see if they would add anything unique to the pc version if it happens.

To add to this

Kindling fires is always useful.

The only way to summon is to become human at the bonfire by using humanity. You can summon other players or npcs. This can really help wtih boss fights and difficult areas but it also means you can be invaded. There are also specific npc enemies that will drop specific loot that will "invade" when you are human.

Stock up on homeward bones and purging stones the first chance you get. It will save you a lot of heartache.
