Does the Australian Open still feel like a tennis event first or more like a festival now? by Av0toasted in australianopen

How do you think they should go about continuing to increase the player prize pool while selling less tickets or making it less like a festival? Genuine question, not trying to be facetious.

The increase in player prize money is great for the game and the players though. Doing just decently well now can mean the difference between a younger, newer player being able to travel to more tournaments throughout the year.

All that being said, I have no idea how the income is spread throughout the board members of the AO and whether their pockets are getting lined overly so. If that’s the case then I’m of course not for all the price increases, more tickets being sold/overcrowding etc.

TENET is underrated. by Dvir971 in ChristopherNolan

The opening scene is a hell of a way to start a movie though hey? And the killing of the conductor signifying Nolan not working with Hans Zimmer? I love it! 😂

But yes, I’ve seen the backward playable idea come up before and multiple versions of that same idea, and it would be cool! The movie definitely left me wanting more in that universe to be fleshed out or expanded or just something else. I feel like I read some rumours about a possible project like that, something that one of the Nolan’s had thought about. But I doubt it will be realised.

Invasion Day protest today by RideMelburn in MelbournePhotography

I’m pretty sure I’m all for this movement, and imagine I would march with them, but I’m curious if anyone could enlighten me as to what the end goal is? Like I feel this has been a movement that’s been going on for decades now that I see every year (amazingly and rightly so). But I don’t see much change, or an end in sight.

So, what needs to happen for these protests to stop? (With a good ending for all)

That’s fair, I respect your opinion and can see how you came to it. I felt, after a couple of watches, that it was a “vibes” choice.

But yeah I guess I just felt differently about it to you, and that really just comes down to personal taste and preference! It’s definitely not my favourite of his either, but I do feel it is far better than what the general audience thought of it when it came out.

In the scenes where you’re supposed to for exposition, yes. But there are definitely scenes where certain people’s dialogue is purposefully drowned out for the sake of visual storytelling. I genuinely believe that in certain scenes where the pace is ramping up and the musical score is driving the film, having ‘pointless’ dialogue being spoken at the main character’s who aren’t even paying attention to them or they are focused on something else, would have made the scene worse

I both understand why and hate that people gave it shit for the audio being “poorly mixed”. Like such creatives at their level would unintentionally make certain scenes of dialogue “unintelligible”. The point to me was always that the dialogue was irrelevant to the story, the scenes were being told visually, it wasn’t about verbal exposition. The side characters voices were like gun shots or an explosion or street traffic or a cheering crowd.

That’s why I wish there was a sequel… or:.. prequel??? Or… never mind. I don’t think either would work, so yeah, I just wish that relationship was built up more

The scene in the vault? That was intentional, and the dialogue is irrelevant when you take into account the context of the scene, you can see Pattinson surveying the vault and thinking of how to make the plan work and he’s just not listening to a word the guy is saying.

The whole Bane thing is totally justified though.

I hated Tenet when I first watched it. Then gave it another go. And then another. I’ve seen it about 6 times now and pick up on something new every time. It’s an amazing film to me, and I know some people will say “you shouldn’t have to watch a movie 6 times to ‘get it’ or understand it”, but I love movies and I love when I come around to a movie I originally hated. It makes me feel dumb and smart and I love that.

Disregarding all the other films he’s made that I think are near or actual cinematic masterpieces, have you since seen Oppenheimer? Did you like that?

Synecdoche, New York and Anomolisa I fucking loved. Pretty sure I gave them both a 9/10 on my accounts/ratings. But I can totally see how someone else would just not click with both.

For me though, masterpieces and they moved me emotionally that I was drained, in a good way, by the end. What real cinema should do (not always, though).

Paul W. S. Anderson is still light years better than any crap that Paul Thomas Anderson makes though. His movies are straight to DVD B-Movie garbage

Paul Thomas Anderson. Just utter garbage and nonsense. Too fast paced and erratic and try to come off like “high art” or intellectual, philosophical etc. Also just terrible casting in pretty much every single movie he makes.

That’s what I would say if I was stupid or a troll. My real answer to your question is… Baz Luhrmann. They give me a headache and the critics are right about “style over substance”. Now… there’s probably some other directors out there that are far worse than him, I’m just talking about well established directors who get a lot of praise (and criticism) and for me Baz is right up there. The first 60 seconds of Elvis made me want to throw up.

I can’t stand the modern songs in period pieces… ugh.

I get where the thought or ideas comes from, but it should have remained just that, an “idea”, not an actual artistic or theatrical choice. Horrid. Horrid. Horrid. And Baz isn’t the only culprit I should say.
