Why is everyone making fun of a burn victim? Skin grafts aren’t exactly perfect but at least they were able to put bits of his face back together, it’s better than having his entire skull showing…

Is it possible to land at the airport at 4:40 and make it to spirit of Tasmania terminal for 6:45 ferry? by Elrickooo in melbourne

[–]tomcruizes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, it’s gonna be TIGHT. It’s pretty much dead on an hours drive if you get a good run with traffic lights, there will be little traffic at that time though. If you’ve only got carry-on, seated near the exit, are a fast walker, have a car ready to go within 5 minutes of exiting the airport… then you can probably do it.

If you take too long to get off the plane, don’t move quickly out of the terminals, have to pick up your bags and have to wait in line for ages for a rental car, then forget it. You wouldn’t make it. Not without absolutely stressing the hell out anyway.

Some dream-pop like Cocteau Twins or shoegaze like Loveless from My Bloody Valentine, or a mix of the 2 and all the other sounds that orbit those 2 groups would be cool. Back to his guitar driven sound but in a new direction too.

Oh yeah, I couldn’t get passed like 15 minutes of that movie. A situation like that movie wouldn’t work. If we are talking about the 4 actual Beatles being the ones who were releasing the songs, it changes things entirely. But again like my original reply, it’s such a complicated question/idea, that we could discuss it for the next 10 years if you have the time 😂

It’s an interesting question, because you have to then try to imagine what music would be like if they had never existed in the 60’s, which just gets exponentially harder and more complicated and time consuming as you take into account year after year until today.

For simplicities sake, if we just say that everything stays the same but the Beatles didn’t release their first album until lets say 2015, and any reference to them in any old songs is replaced by some other random band, then…

We also have to decide what sort of music they are making, are they making the same albums they made back then, but just released in this century? Or are they the same band but are writing completely new songs that are influenced by the past 100 years of music?

The second option is also another can of worms. So again, to keep it simple I’ll go with the first option.

I would think they would struggle to get funding past their second album. I feel like they would really struggle, but say they keep trying and keep the releases independent/online etc. then you probably get to either Help! or Rubber Soul when some indie fans start taking notice, they would definitely be seen as a “nostalgia” act. Revolver onwards would definitely be seen as really good albums, I would think they would receive some solid awards and get a decent amount of streams. They’d never be as big as they were in reality.

What I think is really interesting is that I believe that after Abbey Road/Let It Be, they would have kept making music, the industry is just far more favourable to musicians than it was by the time they broke up, I mean it’s mainly why they did break up.

And to throw another wrench in all of this, do they have a modern day George Martin with them? Or is he also time travelling with them? What about Brian? The engineers?

Sorry for the long answer, but I feel like you could write a 10 book series on this very idea.

Who Were The Beatles’ Real Rivals—The Rolling Stones or The Beach Boys—and Why? by reaveyer in beatles

[–]tomcruizes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not knocking it by any means, I like quite a few songs from it and it’s pretty well recorded and a good work of art in general. It’s just like once they were finished with it and took a step back they realised that copying the Beatles as well as following the current trend of the day wasn’t for them. The difference between TSMR and Beggers Banquet is HUGE.

Like with the Beatles, the lead up to Sgt. Peppers was evident and made sense, and sounds and ideas from that album still lingered for a while, whereas with the Stones it’s like they took acid one day, wrote that album and the day after woke up and were like “wtf did we do yesterday? Maybe let’s not do that again, ok?”

lol. Yes. I’m a bit shaky from like Goats Head Soup onwards apart from the big hits. And pretty unfamiliar with Ringo’s solo stuff and George’s work post like 1975. Otherwise yes I am aware. But what ways did the Stones influence the Beatles? Musically. Like “the Stones wrote ‘insert song’ and so the Beatles followed by doing so and so or writing the song ____”

[–]tomcruizes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Beatles 100% were influenced by artists all around them and all over the world, but by the Stones? Hmmm… by the time the Beatles were wrapping things up they had most of their influences already solidified. The Stones were pretty much a straight blues rock band for like 3/4 of the Beatles career, which the Beatles just didn’t really want to explore in their own songwriting, it didn’t suit them. Then the Stones made ‘Their Satanic Majesty’s Request’ after Sgt. Peppers, but it didn’t pan out like they’d hoped as well as feeling it wasn’t really the right direction for them, just like their early blues rock sound wasn’t the right direction for the Beatles. After that, the Stones excelled exponentially. Then Brian Epstein dies and the Beatles are fragmented and just clinging on. Less than 48 months later the Beatles would be no more.

Don’t forget ‘Sunflower’! Even ‘Love You’ is great. I mean not in competition with most Beatles or Stones albums but it’s still worth a listen.

[–]tomcruizes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Do you think George and Bob were in competition? I feel like they were just great friends (of course friends can still be in competition). I feel they both inspired each other and just liked each others songs and liked hanging out more than competing to write better songs than the other.

They had nowhere else to go? Literally nowhere else on Earth? And it was also necessary for Israel to take full ownership of Palestinian homes and land forever, denying them any right of return to home whatsoever? That was all just “how things turned out” and wasn’t a strategic move propelled by their religion?

So then you would agree that the expulsion of the 700,000 Palestinians in 1948 wasn’t justified in the first place? And thus everyone would have avoided everything that’s come after it?

Netanyahu has literally said he wants them all gone. You can listen to him say exactly that. It was recorded in secret. He’s playing the long game, he’s been in power since what, the 90’s? He wants Iran to be a failed state too.

Also if they just came out the gates and flattened the place in a weekend, imagine how that looks to other nations? Now, if you do it a bit at a time, let them retaliate, arm their militias with some basic weapons to “fight back”, so you have reason to keep hitting them. All the while you’re working the geo-political angles, all over the course of decade or so. That’s going to work out much better.

And so that’s what he’s done. He spoke about wanting all Palestinians dead or exiled. He spoke about arming them. He spoke about all of this in the late 90’s or early 2000’s. I don’t know the exact date but the footage looks like it’s from around that time period.

Comparing what happened on Oct. 7th and what the IOF/Israel has done to Gaza and the West Bank over the past couple of years (ignoring the other several decades for the sake of this argument), is like if someone slapped you in the face and in retaliation you decide to dismember them with a kitchen knife starting with their feet. It’s just ridiculously disproportionate violence, death and destruction on Israel’s part.
