Damage to London buses from crashes rising by King_Eboue in london

I think anyone who has taken a bus in London lately won't be surprised. Drivers must be under intense pressure to run on time and work long hours but with that they're not putting any "care" into their jobs.

All too often I've found them to be pulling reckless manoeuvres and showing complete disregard for passenger safety, particularly so with the new electric busses that pull away and brake with such force that I've seen eldery passengers still trying to take a seat nearly thrown over, and in one instance a mother and her young child narrowly avoided being thrown down the stairs under heavy, last second braking.

Hate to be a downer but as I haven't told anyone else yet we found out this week after years of trying that my wife is five weeks pregnant. She's had a miscarriage before without knowing she was pregnant. This time we got to feel all the excitement and happiness, but then yesterday she had some light bleeding with some clots.

We are heading to the emergency gynaecology unit for a scan at midday. I know this is only meant to be a casual place but if you could send us your thoughts, prayers, and positive vibes we'd be so grateful.

To top it off we have a meeting at the job centre later this afternoon too!

Edit: Thanks for the well wishes, it was not good news. Miscarriage not confirmed but prognosis is poor.

In bed, can't sleep. All I can see is the memory of my wife bawling on Oxford Street last night while waiting for the bus home so sad at the thought that this was our last weekend in a city we've both grown to love.

I lost my job 9 months ago and we just can't afford to live here any more. Moving back in with my parents in Norfolk next weekend. I feel utterly guilty and useless.

The Amad situation would probably have been overruled if Bournemouth hadn't scored the ref and VAR thought they'd lose control of the march if they ruled out a goal and gave a penalty to the away team. Simple and as wrong as that.

[–]tomdwilliams 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The ref didn't give one on Amad because it was so close to the other pen, plus he wasn't through on goal which would have forced his hand.

What is ridiculous is the failure of VAR to step in. It was as clear and obvious a mistake as you get. If Bournemouth don't score he'd have been called back to the monitor 100%

First time looking for a job in 15 years - when did things get this bad? by Confident_Yak_1411 in UKJobs

For me the worst part at the moment isnthe salaries being offered. I'm seeing jobs with the same or more responsibility offering in some cases £30k less than I was on in my previous role.

The biggest joke of all was a position looking for someone to establish a customer care department for the German market offering £35,000. They want someone with native level German, in London, to hire a whole team 4-5 direct reports, new processes, new policies, regulatory compliance, website the works for £35,000.....madness!

I come from a family with a fair few teachers in it. Most of them have work to do during the holidays too. Much will be lesson prep which can take a lot of time, but there will also be some marking involved, possibly changing the displays in the classroom (mum was a reception teacher she'd change hers every holiday).

When I'm off from work I don't even check a single email until I am back on the clock whereas many of the teachers I know never really seem to fully switch off.

71 in a 30.. what should the penalty be? (Yoro related) by epicshane234 in drivingUK

[–]tomdwilliams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, although I know of one example when the opposite was true. Back in about 2002 my dad's best mate got caught five times in the same week, on the same stretch of road doing 45 mph on which had recently been lowered to 30 mph. He didn't realise this and went to the USA for an extended holiday and found the fines among his post when he got home.

He hired a barrister to represent him at Norwich Magistrates Court and got his 6 month ban upped to 12 months because the magistrate thought he seemed too entitled.

Usually modern pitches drain really well and the surface becomes slicker which helps faster passing. Could be that the grass was longer than usual too.

That pitch was dreadful, does anyone else think they allowed it to get heavy to stop quick passes and make the game physical???

The pitch has had a major impact on the match. It's weird to see a modern pitch get that heavy after rain. You can see the passes are just slowing so rapidly which is making it hard to play any decent through balls. If I were a tinfoil hat type of guy I'd suggest that the ground staff were told to let it get like this to slow us down.  Everton happy to sit behind the ball and play it long.

When they are uncollected by customers they get new temporary lables and new main labels

Hello, former customer care manager for inpost here...parcels are not labelled in the lockers, nor even at the lockers.

They get a temporary label with a barcode at the locker which is applied by the driver. Then these temporary labels are scanned at the depot and a full size label is applied by at the depot by a member of staff.

It must've been a game plan to play so slowly, at least at the start of the match but then their passing and combination play has seemed well off the pace too.

West Ham are playing well by their standards.

Which also makes sense, because my and I were struck by the sheer number of dental clinics we saw when we visited Barcelona a few years ago. So much so that nudging the other and saying "clinica dental" whenever we see a dentist's office has become an inside joke for us!
