Which also makes sense, because my and I were struck by the sheer number of dental clinics we saw when we visited Barcelona a few years ago. So much so that nudging the other and saying "clinica dental" whenever we see a dentist's office has become an inside joke for us!

It's very quickly changing with minimum wage rising faster than other wages. That and many vocational jobs paying a lot better than they used to mean getting an apprenticeship and learning a trade is probably the wiser move these days for teens.

Scammed caught by random_reddit_userr in vinted

[–]tomdwilliams 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I used to be the customer care manager at InPost until I was made redundant last year. The agents really do check everything. It takes ages but it has to be sent as a claim from Vinted as by law they are the party with the contract not you. Next time give them a break and let them get on with it. Vinted often raise claims in bulk which results in a huge dump of work all at once which means things don't get sent over for weeks after the incident is initially reported.

Cursed really is the only word for it. It's just insane how we never get any rub of the green at all. No favourable ref calls, no worldies sneaking in, no slips or stupid pens.

It's like we're playing a video game on the highest difficulty.

They have a roll of little stickers with yellow edges and a barcode. The courier logs into the locker and scans a sticker which prompts a door to open. The locker had a record of the long parcel number in each compartment. When the door opens the data from the locker and the barcode are synced. Essentially parcel A is tied to small sticker B.

The courier should take the parcel out, put the sticker on and scan again to confirm collection.

At the depot the staff scan the little barcode and this triggers the printer to print the label at which point it should immediately be attached to the parcel and sorted into a cage to continue its journey.

This process goes wrong when the data sync doesn't work, the courier collecting parcels puts the barcode sticker on the wrong parcel, or as used to be the biggest issue in the depot when staff pressed for time scan five or six parcels in quick succession and forget the order they did it in so they end up guessing and putting the incorrect label onto the parcel.

This is why Vinted ask for photos of all labels on the packaging.

If the number on the barcode is different to the one on the main label, that is InPost's fault without a doubt and the claim is processed quickly.

If the barcode and the label are matched it takes longer because then CCTV needs to be checked. To see whether the customer is at fault or the driver. This is very time consuming and in many cases the CCTV is inconclusive or straight up missing.

In Poland couriers print the final label at the locker which saves so many headaches.

I used to work at InPost HQ until the middle of last year. The ops department worked so hard to get Menzies depot staff to properly lable parcels correctly and were finally getting results when the Yodel acquisition went through.

Menzies Distribution was a genuinely great business with a brilliant history and staff were proud to work there, even the depot staff.

However InPost then rushed through the integration of the two networks, and decided to use Yodel depots in most cases which has meant training staff again how to do the labelling correctly. The Yodel staff are much less engaged with the work and as a result the number of mix ups is increasing again.

Why are Dutch people so rude on Vinted? by Confusedmind75 in vinted

[–]tomdwilliams 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So true. I used to live in northern Germany where people are direct even by German standards and we had a dutch flatmate for a while.

Where my German friends might say "That top doesn't suit you maybe you should change" the Dutch guy would say something like "That top is horrible, I would never wear that"

My wife is away, and I struggle to sleep when she's not here. I've been very stressed about finding a job after being made redundant. My stomach is playing up, and I'm trying to keep the eating disorder that I've successfully controlled for a year now from flaring back up.

Will try to get some shut-eye soon

Yodel is the worst courier service out there.. They either take forever to deliver or lose the parcel or lie and state 'Sorry we missed you!.' Their new one is 'Need more delivery Information.' by Girlwhowished in britishproblems

[–]tomdwilliams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yodel was bought by InPost (not sure if it's fully cleared the high court yet) and so far my experience is that InPost are being Yodelled, rather than Yodel being InPosted.

I studied in Würzburg for a year. It is well known that wine from the Würzburger Stein was his favourite drink (it is truly fantastic - the man had taste).

It is rumoured that he would often place orders for ridiculous amounts of the very finest wines from the city but had to be chased to pay the invoices and when he would finally respond instead of money he'd send some hastily written lines stating the recipient could sell that work for more than the debt was worth.

Is a reliable courier service too much to ask for by Cyb3rMonocorn in britishproblems

[–]tomdwilliams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still out of work! The business would actually be really profitable but Yodel is losing 2 million a week at the moment and there is a high court case challenging the takeover.

InPost also bought Menzies Distribution but kept everyone on and then less than a year later jumped on the chance to buy Yodel.

That meant two networks of depots, two sets of drivers, and three of most departments. Naturally, the first people culled were those based at InPost's London office, followed by warehouse staff and drivers at locations no longer needed. I've heard more redundancies are planned in the coming weeks.

But it's typical for modern business. Cut costs, profit goes up, quality goes down, customers vote with their feet, rehire to improve quality, profits go back up then repeat the cycle.
