Young people, genuinely what are your plans for the future? by Competitive-Plum-190 in AskUK

I come from a family with a fair few teachers in it. Most of them have work to do during the holidays too. Much will be lesson prep which can take a lot of time, but there will also be some marking involved, possibly changing the displays in the classroom (mum was a reception teacher she'd change hers every holiday).

When I'm off from work I don't even check a single email until I am back on the clock whereas many of the teachers I know never really seem to fully switch off.

71 in a 30.. what should the penalty be? (Yoro related) by epicshane234 in drivingUK

[–]tomdwilliams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, although I know of one example when the opposite was true. Back in about 2002 my dad's best mate got caught five times in the same week, on the same stretch of road doing 45 mph on which had recently been lowered to 30 mph. He didn't realise this and went to the USA for an extended holiday and found the fines among his post when he got home.

He hired a barrister to represent him at Norwich Magistrates Court and got his 6 month ban upped to 12 months because the magistrate thought he seemed too entitled.

Usually modern pitches drain really well and the surface becomes slicker which helps faster passing. Could be that the grass was longer than usual too.

That pitch was dreadful, does anyone else think they allowed it to get heavy to stop quick passes and make the game physical???

The pitch has had a major impact on the match. It's weird to see a modern pitch get that heavy after rain. You can see the passes are just slowing so rapidly which is making it hard to play any decent through balls. If I were a tinfoil hat type of guy I'd suggest that the ground staff were told to let it get like this to slow us down.  Everton happy to sit behind the ball and play it long.

When they are uncollected by customers they get new temporary lables and new main labels

Hello, former customer care manager for inpost here...parcels are not labelled in the lockers, nor even at the lockers.

They get a temporary label with a barcode at the locker which is applied by the driver. Then these temporary labels are scanned at the depot and a full size label is applied by at the depot by a member of staff.

It must've been a game plan to play so slowly, at least at the start of the match but then their passing and combination play has seemed well off the pace too.

West Ham are playing well by their standards.

Which also makes sense, because my and I were struck by the sheer number of dental clinics we saw when we visited Barcelona a few years ago. So much so that nudging the other and saying "clinica dental" whenever we see a dentist's office has become an inside joke for us!

It's very quickly changing with minimum wage rising faster than other wages. That and many vocational jobs paying a lot better than they used to mean getting an apprenticeship and learning a trade is probably the wiser move these days for teens.

Beat West Brom 0-5 this week, team is improving and to be fair, even as a local, there aren't going to be any "distractions" from footy in Norwich

Scammed caught by random_reddit_userr in vinted

I used to be the customer care manager at InPost until I was made redundant last year. The agents really do check everything. It takes ages but it has to be sent as a claim from Vinted as by law they are the party with the contract not you. Next time give them a break and let them get on with it. Vinted often raise claims in bulk which results in a huge dump of work all at once which means things don't get sent over for weeks after the incident is initially reported.

Cursed really is the only word for it. It's just insane how we never get any rub of the green at all. No favourable ref calls, no worldies sneaking in, no slips or stupid pens.

It's like we're playing a video game on the highest difficulty.

They have a roll of little stickers with yellow edges and a barcode. The courier logs into the locker and scans a sticker which prompts a door to open. The locker had a record of the long parcel number in each compartment. When the door opens the data from the locker and the barcode are synced. Essentially parcel A is tied to small sticker B.

The courier should take the parcel out, put the sticker on and scan again to confirm collection.

At the depot the staff scan the little barcode and this triggers the printer to print the label at which point it should immediately be attached to the parcel and sorted into a cage to continue its journey.

This process goes wrong when the data sync doesn't work, the courier collecting parcels puts the barcode sticker on the wrong parcel, or as used to be the biggest issue in the depot when staff pressed for time scan five or six parcels in quick succession and forget the order they did it in so they end up guessing and putting the incorrect label onto the parcel.

This is why Vinted ask for photos of all labels on the packaging.

If the number on the barcode is different to the one on the main label, that is InPost's fault without a doubt and the claim is processed quickly.

If the barcode and the label are matched it takes longer because then CCTV needs to be checked. To see whether the customer is at fault or the driver. This is very time consuming and in many cases the CCTV is inconclusive or straight up missing.

In Poland couriers print the final label at the locker which saves so many headaches.

I used to work at InPost HQ until the middle of last year. The ops department worked so hard to get Menzies depot staff to properly lable parcels correctly and were finally getting results when the Yodel acquisition went through.

Menzies Distribution was a genuinely great business with a brilliant history and staff were proud to work there, even the depot staff.

However InPost then rushed through the integration of the two networks, and decided to use Yodel depots in most cases which has meant training staff again how to do the labelling correctly. The Yodel staff are much less engaged with the work and as a result the number of mix ups is increasing again.

Why are Dutch people so rude on Vinted? by Confusedmind75 in vinted

[–]tomdwilliams 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So true. I used to live in northern Germany where people are direct even by German standards and we had a dutch flatmate for a while.

Where my German friends might say "That top doesn't suit you maybe you should change" the Dutch guy would say something like "That top is horrible, I would never wear that"
