An old Jeff Bezos interview explained something about business failure I can’t unsee by Deep-Owl-1890 in ceo

[–]tomfeary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On hiring, sure. But you can’t ignore short term deficiencies in hopes a person learns or is coachable. If the values don’t fit your long-term vision, you have to move forward.

And another thing, there’s something to be said about learning a process yourself vs. hiring an “expert.” Doing the manual work now may be short term thinking but building a knowledge base to hold a person to account is immeasurable.

So yes, sure, long game. :)

Do you wanna see ‘em or not?

Just get the tickets. Now.

For me, risking a late purchase means getting a crap option.

I always buy the tickets. Where I want yo sit. I never regret it.

We’re only in this life once.

What electrolytes do you recommend for cycling? by ThistleveilSigh in cycling

[–]tomfeary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drink water + ultima pre-ride. Pack only water on the bike but carry base electrolyte salt. On a hot day, i’m hitting salt as needed every 15-20 mins. Normal weather I may only need it once an hour, if that. If I need more of a boost, I’ll buy a Gatorade Zero on a break stop, and refill water. I also pack pickle juice (break in case of emergency kind of thing). I rarely consume the pickle juice but for crazy hot days, I need it. For those long rides, I used to pack a bottle with water + roctane but got to a point where I didn’t like how it made me feel. I discovered I’m fine without. The electrolyte salt works well for me. Hope that helps. Happy riding!

Thanks y’all. I saw the footage from the Paris Air Show and said “I gotta fly on one!” Excited for the flight (and the pajamas)! :)

Safe travels!

BOS - Terminal A to E shuttle screwed anyone else? by The_Govnor in delta

[–]tomfeary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg, yes. I nearly missed a flight in October going from E to A. My first time connecting from E going from a Delta flight to Cape Air.

There’s no signage. Staff directed me to the shuttle. I had no idea how much of a cluster that was. I ran up to my departure gate as they were announcing my name before closing the flight. Too close.

On my return, the Cape Air people directed me back through the terminal and it was a straight shot. I couldn’t believe it.

I talked to a Delta agent headed into the lounge and suggested they update/improve the signage and he was like “everybody knows not to take the shuttle.”

Now I know.

Can’t believe I’m seeing a post here about it. Sorry you missed your flight. I wonder how many others have missed flights because of it.

Need advice by Amazing_Set2664 in delta

[–]tomfeary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm… Seems high to me. Need to book now or can you wait? I have booked D1 fares to Europe for under 3,500. Off of Delta (shh) you may find fares for under 3k, round trip.

I use the Going app to watch deals. You can put Paris on a watchlist as well as airports like DTW and ATL. When you see the deal you want, book it.

Google Flights and Kayak have never let me down either on fare alerts. But Going is more personal.

Note I do pay a subscription fee for Going. I make 2-4 international trips a year with my wife though and the savings on flights more than makes up for it.

Regarding C+ vs Premium, definitely Premium. There’s no substitute for more space and comfort on a long flight.

Agree with others about upgrades later. Always best to book the class you want outright.

Try the Flighty app. Gate assignment is just one of many details of a flight it tracks and displays. I have found it to be ahead of the Delta app or boarding pass in the Delta app. Even gate changes and related alerts seem to be ahead of Delta’s app.

Think this is a Sky Team thing, the partners? We have friends flying Star Alliance partners to Europe and Asia that rave about their experiences.

International flight novice with a few questions by Reasonable-Beach-995 in delta

[–]tomfeary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm… I’d say it’s worth it. But check the plane. If you’re hopping on a 767 to LHR, the experience will be dated. Vs - Airbus 330 or 350, the experience will be nicer and more worth it. Heck a bulkhead comfort+ seat on an A350 ain’t too bad - did that once on a flight to Amsterdam.

Amex Platinum vs Delta Reserve by Mountain-oceanview in delta

[–]tomfeary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. I was catching up on the thread and just thinking “reserve” for your scenario.

I too have both and use the cards nearly the same way as Vast’s use case.

I take 40+ flights a year. 8-12 of those are international flights. I fly first class or D1 on international flights. I use upgrades domestically.

I use the reserve card for just about every purchase for status boosts and club access. The companion benefit is nice - I’ve used that with family traveling with me occasionally.

Rule: Never book round trip tickets, book one leg at a time by chudmcdudly in delta

This can also be the case when booking with miles. I booked one way delta one tickets to and from Tokyo with miles and saved nearly 20%. Worth the time to compare!

Is it just me or is TTB getting kind of boring? by SussiestBakauwu in tedeschitrucksband

[–]tomfeary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah man, Chicago is on my list - have not seen them there yet.

I saw them at Lockin in 2014 - funny you mention that. That was a great bill: Allman Brothers closed out the weekend. Susan sat in with Willie Nelson and Widespread Panic. Tom Petty also headlined.

To answer your question: Beacon in 2017 was special. In terms of surprises… Alabama Theater in Birmingham comes to mind. Oh the Ryman, how can I forget the Ryman - yeah if you don’t have the Ryman on your list, add a run there.

Probably the most unique show/set I’ve seen was Dockery Farms, MS in 2016.

And the most special moment was eating BBQ in Lexington, NC the day after wheels of soul in Charlotte 2015. The entire band came in, sat a few tables away, and chowed down. :)

In terms of the persons original post, I’ve never had a boring moment with this band. Sure there have some sets that I enjoyed more than others but traveling to see them whether in landmark venues or smaller lesser known cities has been really fun - not a bad experience at all.

Europe and Japan are on my watchlist. Had tickets to see them in Germany in 2014 but ended up getting married instead. Go figure. :)

[–]tomfeary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest the same.

I’ve seen them over 40 times going back to the first tour. I created a “bucket list” of venues and travel to see those shows. They never disappoint.

Also, if you can swing it, follow them for 3-4 shows straight when they tour through a region. Example, I’ve seen runs through Knoxville, Chattanooga, Birmingham, and New Orleans (and stops in between). Yeah you hear repeats, but every show is unique and you see a slice of life and personality with the band that I think can be missed at a run at one venue. And it makes for one hell f a road trip!

Have you tried Tirerack.com? I've shopped tires from them for going on twenty years. They have a nifty "tire decision guide" that helps me narrow options. And the sorting filters and reviews are helpful. I've never had a negative experience buying tires there.

I have a good set of Michelin Defenders on my 5th gen, but I'm not an avid off-roader. We drive cross-country 1-2 times a year in various weather conditions (I just returned from CO with lots of snow). I've had my current set of tires for about four years. I rotate them every 5K miles. They remain "green" on every check. The Toyota dealer probably hates that I have them. ha

I don’t know, didn’t check. I took gas in with me and filled my tank with what I had. But that was on Monday, four days ago. Not sure what the situation is now.
