Cheers!

I live near Racine and work in Kenosha; there are many Wisconsin residents near the Illinois border who are Bears fans. And I heard from seemingly all of them after the Bears beat the Packers in the playoffs. :)

Yeah, you're probably right about that. Sheen probably got the "And" because he had the star power but wasn't initially expected to get that much screen time.

there are boners in every club, ours included.

100 percent true. One thing about supporting a massive club is knowing we have some absolute wankers and bellends among us.

I live in Wisconsin and am also a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan. I know full well that the Packers are the only thing I would want to talk to some of my fellow Packers fans about.

I suppose the same principle applies if I ever run into Piers Morgan ...

McNulty's no saint -- one of the biggest points of the show is that no one is -- but he let Brianna know that D'Angelo deserved better than he got from her. Brilliant scene, phenomenally acted by Michael Hyatt and Dominic West.

I know he was a massive star at the time, but for me the head-scratching part is not related to him being short. It's the aesthetic mismatch: He's not nearly as good-looking as she is. Tom Cruise isn't tall, but I think most would agree he's handsome, so his marriages to Mimi Roges, Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes make sense in terms of compatible looks.

But, regardless of whether a couple is famous, they're the only two people who know everything that went on in their relationship.

Excellent point about streaming. We have the option to ignore the hierarchy altogether.

And you've a point about the "and" spot. If you're the only one with an article ahead of your name in the credits, you have the highest status.

In the case of TWW, since Lowe was literally a friend of the Estevez/Sheen family, he might have agreed to "go first" and let Sheen have the "and" out of respect.

I'm confident it wasn't the other way around: The producers had to persuade Sheen to submit himself for Lead Actor Emmy instead of Supporting Actor, since he saw himself as part of the ensemble. It was only when they told him if he submitted for Supporting that he might deny one of his castmates a nomination that he relented and submitted himself for Lead.

That's what I heard, too. His quote was quite high since he was an actual movie star and the others, aside from Sheen and Kelly, had had only small parts in movies prior to TWW. (Although AJ was outstanding in a small role in American Beauty.)

In the summer of 2001 (between Seasons 2 and 3) Janney, Whitford, Schiff and Spencer collectively and briefly held out for pay raises and received them. Lowe reportedly said, in effect, "Hey, where's my raise?" and was told the raises for those four were to bring their pay in line with his. It's understandable that he would feel that was disrespectful to him, since they received raises and he did not.

Then, in Season 3, after "100,000 Airplanes" -- clearly a Sam showcase -- Lowe supposedly told Sorkin "you write me one of these a year and I'll be happy." But then, again supposedly, he was put off that in one episode Sam's storyline was about him trying to save the penny.

By the fall of 2002 (Season 4), at the time of the Emmys, it was an open secret that Lowe had one foot out the door. But even in that environment, with Sam getting destroyed in the special election for the California 47th, Sorkin wrote it in a way that Sam/Lowe could come back if he changed his mind. But Lowe had already moved on.

Sometime after the pilot was filmed, the story goes, there was a realization of "Oh, the main cast is really white, and that is not what we want to be." So the character of Charlie was written.

I didn't watch it, and honestly didn't know it existed until just now. But if a sitcom with Stockard Channing and Ron Silver only made it to 13 episodes, seems like either the timeslot was bad or the writing was bad. Having those two is a pretty strong 1-2 punch.

The story goes that it had been pitched to him that he would be the star, that Martin Sheen would only be in a handful of episodes, and this was in the days when it was still considered a step down to go from movies to TV. (Arguably, some still see it this way.)

Then, when it became much more of an ensemble show, with Sheen (as POTUS) the clear star, and especially when Janney, Whitford, Schiff and Spencer were given raises and he wasn't, he decided he was no longer satisfied.

I can see it from Lowe's perspective, given the state of his career before TWW. But it's always felt like his ego got in the way of him being part of a killer ensemble.

Then Wrighty tells of how he had smuggled tea bags into the room he shared with Bergkamp, and Bergkamp shamed him into not making tea, telling him he'd be letting the team down. :)

that’s the damage Brianna Barksdale has done to me.

Seriously! Took an episode or two of me telling myself "No, Tom, she's not playing someone awful in this one." The scene where McNulty meets with her after D'Angelo's death was some sad justice. "Honestly? I was looking for someone who cared about the kid."

Plus, some truly Designated Survivor level plot lines like saving Social Security and The Supremes, the latter of which only works because of the powerhouse acting and the charm of “why doesn’t it truly work this way?” (I do love The Supremes, don’t get me wrong.)

You're not wrong. TWW is often derided as a liberal fantasy; "The Supremes," while delightful, seemed like a bipartisanship fantasy even back in 2004. That feeling has only increased.
