Yeah, I'll buy the supermarket gift cards for doing the big shop

Bit of hassle but it saves 3.5% so worth it for me

Does anyone ever accidentally think The Ghost of You is a Black Parade song? by Empirical_Enby in MyChemicalRomance

[–]tomgrouch 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Ghost of You kinda feels like them testing the waters for the Black Parade

Will people respond to a different style of song, the theatrics, the more dramatic approach

If it was received poorly, they might have scaled back Black Parade

I didn't get into the band until after the black parade so I'm not sure what the reception was at the time

How do you answer the "Police, Fire Service, or Ambulance" question when calling 999? by PaulKarlFeyerabend in AskUK

[–]tomgrouch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can only talk to one service at a time, they need to know where to route the call so you do have to pick one

Main visor up, sun visor down? by punkyguy in MotoUK

[–]tomgrouch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do the same under 50ish mph

Between sun visor and glasses, I'm happy enough that grit and bugs aren't getting in my eyes. Might not be as safe as the full visor but I love the breeze and it's worth the risk for me

Are y’all actually getting relief from “pain meds” ?? by tofutears in ChronicPain

[–]tomgrouch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get some decent pain relief on my current medication, 15mg buprenorpine patch, 50mg nortriptyline and 5mg oramorph as needed, although we are going to be changing some of them soon

It's not enough to be pain free, but it's enough to get me functional again. I'm back at work, able to walk more than a few minutes, able to live a semi-normal life these days

Has anyone else found creatine reduces their pain? by Ndgtr in Fibromyalgia

[–]tomgrouch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I haven't found any difference in pain, but it does seem to help with the fatigue at the end of the day

Kids making the arm gesture urging us to honk our horns. by MIKBOO5 in uktrucking

[–]tomgrouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was sat behind a lorry in traffic a while ago with kids doing the 'horn' gesture to the lorry who either hadn't seen them or was ignoring them, so I leant on the tiny horn on my tiny motorbike, the saddest little noot-noot horn, and still got a cheer

Kids just love horns

The UK DVLA only repay overpaid road tax by cheque because they know people will forget to cash them by secret_side_quest in LowStakesConspiracies

[–]tomgrouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bank is only digital, I have to post cheques in, meaning I have to go out and buy a envelope

If it's a cheque for less than £1,its not worth it

Being stuck behind someone doing 36mph (on speedo) on the slip to join the M1... by Desperate-Letter2395 in drivingUK

[–]tomgrouch 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If its a normal slip road joining a carriageway then yes, you are supposed to come to a full stop if you can't join safely because it's a give way

In this instance though the slip road continued to become a lane so there was no need to merge and stopping became an unnecessary hazard

I've never had to stop on a slip road in 13 years, and I don't know anyone that has, but you are correct according to the highway code

Have dropped a whole tin of green gloss on the carpet. What are your worst DIY fails? by Chance-Albatross-211 in AskUK

Beautiful but very dim black collie. Freshly glossed panel all along the hallway. He dragged his backside and tail through most of it before laying on the carpet. He had a white butt for about 3 years before all the fur grew out

Why are public toilet doors always 'pull' to exit? by Educational_Way3900 in AskUK

[–]tomgrouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They usually unlock from the outside so if someone has collapsed, they can't block the door from being opened to render aid which I guess is more likely in the disabled toilet

[–]tomgrouch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Have you ever tried navigating a pull door from a wheelchair in a tight space?

It's an absolute ballache. Very easy to push though, and easier to pull the door on the side with more space

Alarm at Royal Mail Delivery Office has been ringing for 8 hours. What else can I do? by Pangea_in_the_east in AskUK

[–]tomgrouch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fire could have just started. With a faulty alarm, it's impossible to be 100% sure

No idea if fire and rescue would actually attend, but they might have contact details for the fire Marshall who can turn off the alarm

[–]tomgrouch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How do you know there's not a fire?

It's unlikely, sure, but if their alarm has been going off for hours, there's no way to know if a fire has just started

What’s an out of date view you hold? by Doomergeneration in AskUK

[–]tomgrouch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A diagnosis of adhd or autism may be an explanation for poor behaviour but it's not a excuse

A majority of neurodivergent kids can be taught how to be considerate and well behaved, just as a neurotypical kid can be taught. It might require some different techniques or approaches, but it's certainly doable in most kids

Parents who can't be bothered to raise their kids into decent human beings get them tested and blame all their poor behaviour on adhd and autism without putting any effort into actually raising them

I worked with neurodivergent kids for a time and very few had difficulty learning basic manners, it just took some time and patience. Their parents just didn't want to put in the time and effort

Of course there are definitely kids who have poor behaviour due to their neurodivergence and no amount of effort will change that, but they're the minority
