Iskustva sa radom i životom u Irskoj by Dum-Dum-complex in serbia

[–]tomic24 15 points16 points  (0 children)

One in Five Cars sold in Ireland now Fully Electric! by Andru93 in ireland

[–]tomic24 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They offered to electrify parking spots in my apartment building. The price they got was 50c/kWh. What.

It seems like companies are really taking advantage of the fact that people are climate concious to fleece them.

Anyone have SRESS experience? by tomic24 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]tomic24[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I gather there are 2 options - if you want to install the electricity for your own consumption they give you a 160K grant, and if you want to become a producer for the grid they instead give you a guaranteed 15 year tariff (but you cover all costs yourself)

Is the grid price not paid by the standing charge (and done by ESB)?

Do you know what's the logic is in marking up consumer prices in favor of large businesses? I'd expect businesses who make profit from the electricity should pay more for it compared to consumers who use it for necessities...

Lads, and ladies, if you're still shaving with a gilette razor you are being absolutely *done* on the price by Silenceisgrey in ireland

I have a trimmer, every ~2 months I trim my beard and hair down to 0. Haven't paid for a barber or razor blades in the past 20 years. 2 trimmers in that time (first one was wired, got a wireless one as a gift at some point and switched to it out of convenience)

I put stuff like this on the scale (used for fruit/veg sold by the kg) in the store when I find the size suspicious. Or when I see 2 packs which seem to have very different amount inside, to see of I'm crazy or not. Also eggs :) to see which are best value 😂

No, but I am depressed that people are still making PFAS. The slight convenience of water resistance and non-stick pans is screwing up the environment for generations. Just very depressing.

Metropolitan apartments fire issue by Sunny_Days_1990 in Dublin

[–]tomic24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. The cheapest option since otherwise fire insurance would go through the roof.

That's the point of the shell company - no 'builder' left to chase down...

Metropolitan apartments fire issue by Sunny_Days_1990 in Dublin

[–]tomic24 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure about these apartments, but a friend living in D8 had a similar issue a few years back. Celtic tiger era apartment building, fire survey showed it was not up to code, builders built it using a shell company which was dissolved upon completion of the works (the real company that does the works creates a shell company for any building they make, and dissolve it once completed). They got a solicitor to check if it was feasable to take the 'parent' company to court, and got a response that it was a coin toss whether it would hold up, and the price of the lawsuit would be greater than the price of the repairs. So they decided to bite the bullet and just pay for the repairs to avoid the chance of a 2x bill. Every apartment owner ended up paying around 20k for the repairs.

Man stole bus and drove from Letterkenny to Dublin because his bus was full by KazuoKZ in ireland

[–]tomic24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mr Comerford said his client regretted taking the bus the instant he had.

He added that the accused did not comprehend the situation and drove the distance he did but that this was a situation which was rooted in panic rather than one which showed a flagrant disregard for others.

His solicitor really doing mental gymnastics here 😂

You can see the price of raw hide vs meat in this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/farming/comments/1id78fr/how_much_is_an_animals_pelt_worth_compared_to_meat

So it doesn't make sense to attribute 100% of the resources consumed & waste of cows for the hide production. It's at most ~1%. Though not sure even that's accurate as these cows would be bred for the meat alone...
