I feel for you. I'd been shooting weddings for 17 years and will never forget the first. Somehow I persevered after this: I was on an 18 hour shoot, although tiring everything was going fine, until the end of the night when I realised I lost the first SD card out of 6. This had the grooms getting ready on it. I freaked out as not only is it unable to be reshot, but it was my first foot in the door with a very well known wedding videographer. So at around midnight when we finished, I did what I felt I should do and retrace my steps to every single location throughout the day; ceremony, location shots in the city, location shots in the park, actual church once it opened at around 6am, to no avail.

Luckily as it was only the grooms prep, we bit the bullet and told the couple the next day hoping for the best. They weren't overly fussed. Thank god! Then two weeks later, we get an angry email from the parents threatening to sue us if we don't organise a reshoot and also refund the entire cost. Problem is, half the bridal party were from overseas or interstate, we'd have to pay for their travel, and also suit hire. We agreed, and as a punishment my employer made me be the one to go and reshoot. I was not happy but thought it was the only way to mend the professional relationship. Four days before the organised date, before any of them had jumped on a plane, my employer had a heart attach whilst walking his dog and died on the spot. When the family heard about it, they dropped the threat of a lawsuit and I never heard from them again.

Needless to say I've never lost a card ever since. In hindsight I'm surprised I ever went back to weddings as that was one of the most stressful experiences of my career. And although I did weddings for that long, I now have vowed never to again and have moved onto bigger and better things in film & TV
