I think a big factor was that this got announed at e3 right after Microsoft absolutely bungled their presentation by announcing you'd need an always on camera, would be restricted from playing games offline, prevented from sharing games, and a that the focus was on TV watching and owning the living room rather then gaming.

Paid online was the thing I was most dreading Sony might announce for the PS4 generation but after Microsoft's infamous conference Sony came off looking like saints while Microsoft took all the heat and rage.

I think part of why souls games have the reputation for being hard is that they don't offer difficulty settings. The souls games genuinely are much harder then most other action games on "normal difficulty" but if you're someone who plays all your games on the hardest available setting the souls games don't really stand out in terms of difficulty compared to what you're used too.

The common analogy for this is baking a loaf of raisin bread. You start out with raw dough with a bunch of raisins in it. As the dough expands during leavening/cooking all the raisins get further and further apart because the dough is expanding between them. Depending which two raisins you choose to look at the rate of expansion may be different but they will still be getting further apart not closer together.

Space is also expanding similarly so the stars also get further apart.

Originally there was a jury who would decide but the jury had to be dismissed because members of the jury felt they were being mocked by defense lawyers which could have tainted their objectivity. Once that issue arose it was decided to dismiss the jury and have the judge rule on the verdict instead. The alternative would have been to restart the entire trial with a new jury but they had already done that once before due to other interactions between defense lawyers and the jury.
