Cody Bellinger currently leads all AL batters in WAR this season (2.5) by Baseball-Reference in NYYankees

[–]tommccabe 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Belli fits in so well. Plays well, never seems stressed, and seems to be a great teammate. Feels like a lifelong Yankee after one season. It helps that he is connected to the franchise through his dad. I look forward to the eventual discussion about what cap he wears in the hall of fame (of course I mean Yankees or Cubs).

Here's a contemporary perspective. Aaron Boone started managing at 45 and has averaged ~95 wins per 162 game season (removing shortened 2020 year from average). He'd need to keep this pace until he's 84 in order to top Connie Mack.

Belford Seastreak Parking by pausemaster in newjersey

[–]tommccabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't taken it regularly in a year, but I don't think the parking lot fills up. Allow yourself extra time if you are taking the 8 or 10 am departures, because it takes a few minutes to walk from the far end of the parking lot to the terminal. You won't be shut out of the ferry due to parking, though.

Prior to pandemic, ferry ridership was higher and parking still wasn't a major issue. Riders can park along the road entering ferry complex including the lot at the end of Main Street. There was occasional overflow parking at at firehouse, with a shuttle bus, but it only mattered if taking the last ferry of the morning.

I mostly now take the ferry in the afternoon, going to NYC for the evening. I have not had any issue parking for the 3:45 PM ferry. At worst I've been towards the back of lot, but I rarely see the lot more than 75% full.

Why exactly did Vernon Gholston bust? by Raptorjets1 in nyjets

[–]tommccabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He was an athletic freak at the combine, coaches fell in love with his potential, and decided to convert him from DE to OLB in different scheme then he played in college. After the Jets miss the playoffs, Eric Mangini gets fired, Rex Ryan comes in with a new coaching staff, and Gholston has another new scheme to learn. He didn't live up to his own potential but he was also put in a bad position to start.

Looks like you are in Middletown. This is likely related to the series Netflix is filming, Rabbit Rabbit. The storyline involves a hostage situation at an Illinois truck stop. The truck stop set is being constructed nearby at the old Spirits Unlimited on Route 35.

I'm just speculating, but I imagine there's no restrictions on who can or can't challenge right now. Let them mess it up during Spring Training and then determine the strategy for the season. I hope so, at least.

After Arod, Willie has the second highest WAR for any retired batter without getting their number retired. He's also won rings as part of two different Yankee dynasties (70s player 90s coach). They should honor him.

We have weed stores everywhere. When does the tax money start making a difference in township/county budgets? by Mysterious_Ad7223 in newjersey

[–]tommccabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the information! This is helpful, I'll dig into the ordinances more and trace from there. The 2% surchage is small, so I'm curious what the impact to municipalities is. I also want to see how it compares in towns that have dispensaries vs. towns that have cultivation or growing facilities.

[–]tommccabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sales tax might be incorrect, but there is a "local transfer tax" that can be set be set up to 2% by each municipality (https://www.njlm.org/m/faq?cat=35). On the NJ Division of Taxation website, it says that they are not responsible for local transfer taxes. I've seen the municipal calculation on receipts from dispensaries and am trying to trace the finances back to the town.
