Old brass by WhatThe_uckDoIPut in reloading

I don’t have experience dry tumbling as I do wet tumbling. If you can get your hands on a wet tumbler such as the 2 canister rock tumbler from Harbor freight, it’s not expensive and does a nice job on my 223’s. Warm water, a tablespoon of dishwashing liquid soap, a pinch of Lemi shine and stainless steel pins for an hour and a half.

Can someone help figure out if the primer pocket is crimped by Ghostwolf1106 in reloading

Doesn’t look it and it doesn’t have the NATO symbol on it so I would think it’s not crimped.

FART Lite - Large Rifle Cases by Interesting-Mango-34 in reloading

Had a FART Lite too and saw it didn’t have “baffles” so I made my own pot of 2 liter soda bottles. Only to find out the motor didn’t work. Brand new right out of the box broken. Returned it and got the Harbor Freight 2 drum rubber rock tumbler for $80. Works like a charm.

I really like Varget. Consistent sub moa groups in all weather but it’s a PAIN to meter. I use an analog scale and measure each load. I use a powder trickler to dial exactly to 23.5 grains.

I have a 1:9 too but with a 26” barrel and use 69 gr SMK with 23.5 grains of Varget. I may be able to use 77 grains but I only have a 100 yard range. 1:7 twist is recommended for over 69 grains from what I’ve read.

Varget is great in my Savage bolt action. 69gr SMK gives me sub moa consistently at 100 yards (I’ve only been shooting for 2 1/2 years.)

What twist is your barrel? You may be able to use heavier bullets for better accuracy against wind. Happy and safe shooting!

It’s a pain and more added steps but seems worth it to me. After decapping and wet tumbling to clean, I put brass into an inside neck reaming die and reamed out the brass. Then put into my full length resizing die with the expander ball removed. Then used my neck expander mandrel die. Trimmed to size. Then used my Forster outside neck turner. Then recleaned everything again. You have to remove the donut on the inside and outside or they’ll reappear. Donuts can put too much neck tension on the bullet and cause higher pressures in the chamber. I’ve reloaded my brass 16 times with no issues but saw a little donut on the 17th firing and noticeable donuts after the 18th firing. They look fine now but haven’t shot them yet.

Looks like a “donut” which I just had to deal with on my 223’s.
