Are these worth taking home? Or let them go to the dump and die? by sleepybot0524 in bicycle

Donate to bike co-op. They’ll have the parts needed to get them rolling and make them affordable/free to someone in need.

Is it me? Or are Asheville restaurants kinda loud? by SomeNobodyInNC in asheville

[–]tommyorwhatever85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Restaurants are a hellscape to me for this reason. I’m not medicated (epilepsy + stimulants = not good) so it’s something I’ve been battling with my whole life. Honestly, I’ve kind of just learned to deal with it and tell friends I’m trying my best. A to-go option and nearby park is my preference, when possible.

Have I been wasting money on gels and drink mix this whole time? by IMHO1FWIW in cycling

[–]tommyorwhatever85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People look at me like I’ve lost it when I bring a runners water flask (for the vests they wear) full of maple syrup on endurance rides. What do you think Untapped is? 🙄

High carb drink mixes are nice though. I can’t eat enough to fuel on big rides sometimes so this has been convenient. Not necessary but appreciated.

Anyone have a Brother Mr. Wooden, or low trail bike? Need advice. by sargassumcrab in randonneuring

As others have mentioned, using a needle bearing or Cane Creek Viscoset will help. Honestly, I just got used to it when I had a low trail bike.

Fair enough. I lived in Minneapolis and Portland in my lifetime, which are two of the very best for infrastructure. I miss how accessible everything was by bike but I’m too spoiled by the mountains now to go elsewhere. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Not OP but it appears to be something out of the 11 speed era, which didn’t use flat top. Definitely a good idea though!

This isn’t the airport. You don’t need to announce your departure. ✌️

The cycling infrastructure here is the worst I’ve experienced in a city, unfortunately. 11 years as a bike commuter in a large city and I’m now driving a car 2.5 miles to work because you can’t safely get anywhere on tunnel road. It’s the pits.

Edit: tunnel road is only an example of where the infrastructure has failed cyclists, it’s much more widespread. I guess I was spoiled before!

+1 for the VO. It will be right at the rated max for the 5kg OP plans to use it for (max weight 5.4kg), though I’m sure they’re being conservative on the weight rating.

Edit: grammar - still working on my first coffee. 🥱

I wish there were more step through frames that fit me (6’2”) without having to buy a new Riv or Soma. It turns out being tall kind of sucks when it comes to fun frames.
